Strange bit of commentary from Duke

Post by scrap iron »

Duke McKenzie came up with a few odd quotes last night, but the most bizarre comment of the night was when Duke said the Thaxton punch that knocked out Melero was a left hook. This was wrong. He then corrected himself after watching the replays and said it was a right hook thrown out of the orthodox stance that knocked out Melero, but this was still wrong. The punch was clearly a right hook thrown out of the southpaw stance. Thaxton lead leg was his right one and his right shoulder was facing Melero when he threw the punch. I was astonished a former World Champion couldn't see or understand this.

Apart from that I thought ITV did an excellent job and I quite enjoyed back-stage Gabriel and his cameos.

yeah i enjoyed it last night, saw most of the bill on tv.

with it being on itv4 they don't just have an hour to cram everything in , so it works in the boxers on the undercard favour

Personally I'd quite like to see more live action and less wanky stuff, like "dressing room" features and interviews with whips and cuts men etc. It is good that they are trying something a bit different- SKY always go with those pre-recorded interviews etc. And frankly anything is better than Bunce prattling on.

Did anyone go to this live? I'd be interested to know what the venue was like from a fans point of view- literally.

Really? I thought the ITV presentation was a bit amateurish (Clarke wittering on about the toilets, then interviewing some journo at the end who looks like he needs a hair cut and some brioche).

I also found their incessant wittering about Khan annoying when John Muirray didn't even get a mention! Concentrate on Hennessey's fighters, not Sky's!

Good to see ITV have copied Setanta's idea of Bunce's boxing hour, though. Competition is good.

The neutral opinion from Carl Froch was a pleasure to hear.

He predicted defeat for Thaxton when a lot of other people doi ng the job would have went with their hearts.

Duke is a nice bloke (he gave me an autographed photo at a show once) but he is absolutely awful. Champion of half the world!? Why can't they use Rawlings Setanta sidekick Woodhall? Is it an ITV equal opportunities thing?

Carl Froch was excellent. I hope he becomes a star. BTW - tickets for the Pascal fight are on sale from the Trent FM arena website - ordered mine yesterday.
