Venues
Re: Venues
York hall wasnt bad but it was really hot.
Re: Venues
There's no place better than the York Hall balcony. Although the Blue Horizon pushes it close if it wasn't in the ghetto.

As far as I know. Dirk can sort tickets as I always sort them. Think he's driving so no wining about trains.MatthewS wrote:Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:There's no place better than the York Hall balcony. Although the Blue Horizon pushes it close if it wasn't in the ghetto.

If you're lucky, I may treat you to a Ruby after.
Re: Venues
Manor Place Baths, was fantastic. South London's answer to York Hall. Some amazing area title fights in there with guys like Albert Hillman and Joey Singleton.
Re: Venues
Chris, I thought it was better than York Hall, seen some great Fights there
Re: Venues
You've been around Scrap, how would fighters like Joey Singleton have fared in this era. Take Hatton and Witter out of the equation and he would have toyed with the rest of Britain's light-welters.
Re: Venues
You look back in time through Rose tinted glasses, but I think you are right. Joey was a very good Fighter when the depth of talent was greater than it is now, a good Technician with plenty of Bollocks about Him.

The York Hall stands tall.
Elephant and Castle Leisure Centre used to be good, too. Why did it stop hosting boxing?

Re: Venues
Dudley Town Hall is a gem of a venue.
Aston Villa Leisure Centre (or what ever it is called now) on the other hand, isn't in the same league IMO.Its just another sports hall with a boxing ring stuck in it.
Ally Pally (although not really small hall!) was disappointing when I was last there - no raked seating meant a pretty poor view from the floor.
As most say York Hall is very hard to beat

Grosvenor Hotel and the Octagon in Sheffield.
Mainly because the bars are 20 seconds from the seats.

Re: Venues
tell you what..over the years ive been to loads of venues for big fights and small hall shows. from mandalay bay to york hall. but the magna centre in rotheram took some beating. clinton beat hoye for the world title, about 3k of supporters there, long thin venue but one hell of an atmosphere, perhaps hayemaker promotions can run a show there??
Re: Venues

Re: Venues
When Danny dumped Meehan on his arse at York Hall the place erupted in a manner I've not seen anywhere else. I think he'd been preceded by Napa's mob too, to add to atmos, he lost to Culshaw if I recall.
Good night that was.
