infortunate change in opponent (no offense to Joel) but it's good to see the fight still going ahead. :TU:

If Bell has had to relinquish the title because he has won the OPBF title, shouldn't Lovett and Stenton be fighting for the title?

yep, they should but..... bell had to give up title to fight for regional title not because he won it. if boxers are going to chase regional titles,OPBF, PABA etc they can't hold national title as well. it stinks. no real reason that I can see that they can't hold both other than bullshit politics.

that is why you will usually see that top 3-4 fighters in each division will not fight for national title. they will be chasing either world titles or regional belts to gain world rankings.

Hi Gerry,

Now with the title being relinquished by Bell the next guy in line was Stenton. Porky(1) ineligible as he held regional titles at the time. Stenton(2), according to his trainer has retired, so McKay then takes his spot at Number (3). He was scheduled to fight Micevic at number (4). Now Mackay pulling out injured has left the title with Micevic. So as you can see none of the guys above Micevic are available so I started working down the line. I contacted Baff's(5) management and he is out of the country at the moment. Johnny Walker(6) holds regional IBF title and was not prepared to relinquish that to fight for Oz title. Next Charles Njock(7) who is Micevic's stable mate and wouldn't be right for two guys from same gym fighting for it. Next was Casey(8) who accepted the fight but need more time as he is scheduled to fight on 18th Oct against Quagliotto (9), thus the 2 week posponement of our show. I also offered it to Foley(10), Bolling(11), but as they are rated below Casey would have to fight on original date of Oct 31 to by pass him. They both indicated that would not be ready in time.

With the original purse bid and subsequent injuries to McKay it has been one hell of a process to get this fight together.

Hope this clears things up for you.

Clear as mud. If the Australian champion is not the best Australian in the division it denigrates the national title. I have heard the reasons before and they are rubbish.

You are right in what you say but the ANBF doesn't like titles remaining vacant for too long. Lovett may not be ready to fight for some time now and there is the chance that he may not even be interested. Stenton I believe has retired.

I can't speak for Casey, but if Zdravko wins the title I'm sure we would consider giving him a shot next year.

No one told me that I just got asked that question by unleash06. All I said is if we win and you wanted a shot we'd give it to you. As for Heath, Tony Salta told me that he retired when I rang him thursday and offered him the Micevic fight, but maybe after Bell's win on sunday Heath would want a shot at him. Great fight if it happens.

Word is that Foley will climb the ratings once they come out.

Thanks for going through it Charlie.

People can argue about it not being between the best two guys in the division. But it is between the best two available guys. If we are going to have Australian title holders that's the way it has to be these days with the contstraints of all the other titles going around.

Great to see that explained Charlie & the work that good promoters go through to put on good cards. It should still be a good fight as Casey has a warm up fight planned so should be in shape.
