The DeGale/Sutherland debate crops up a bit.
A lot of Sutherlands wins were on home turf in Ireland apparently, and I don't need to tell you how much of an advantage fighting on home turf can be in that game.

A lot say Sutherlands style is far more suited to the pro's and at face value I would agree.
But, whats to say DeGale has just adjusted his style to suit the Pro's and will be fine when it comes to the Pro game? Too much is made of an Am having the right "pro style". Surely perfecting the perfect "Am style" and winning Gold Medals(thus landing huge singing on fees)is no bad thing?
What's to say Sutherland simply wasn't good enough to make the most of the Am game in the way DeGale has?

Why doesn't he just turn pro? His style is reflex-based. If he turns pro after 2012, likely in 2013, He'll already be 27. 4 years to get into position if he even performs as a pro, then hes 31. Then if he's not alligned with the right promoters he could be 32 or 33 getting a title shot, those reflexes eroding. And whos to say he'll even win at 2012.

Fella should just turn pro, sure he wants to, just holding out for more money than either Audley or Amir, both of whom have been total flops as a pro. They probably hurt his asking price.

Bloody hell reading every post in the thread, everybody seems to dislike the guy - not surprised with the lack of class and bags of arrogance he displayed at the Olympics. Bloody hell, what a mostly horrible bunch of lads we dispatched over there to Beijing.

Hes already a forgotten gold medallist with a stinky style and a big gob, nothing exciting about him to attract the casual fanbase. Looks bleak.

I don't mind his attitude but that doesn't mean I think he'll be a top pro, mind you I wasn't really impressed by the boxers at the Olympics other than that Ukrainian featherweight(Lomachenko?) and he's the only one who I think will be going places as a pro.

If a guy is talking about nothing but money before even 1 pro fight, then that sends alarm bells ringing for me.

The list of successful gold medallists in boxing whom have gone on to do well is not that long.

Andre Ward won the Gold at light-heavy in 2004 for USA and i bet he hasn't earned $4m (£2m) since turning pro despite being 16-0.

And he hasn't lost a fight since 1998 amateur or pro.

Would you rather be Amir Khan earning 3 million a fight, or Andre Ward on 15,000? (on a good night)

Ward, much easier to stay motivated when you have less money and lets face it 15k is hardly a pittance is it?

Andre Ward would give his right nut to be in Khan's position right now, as would any young prospect in world boxing

Fighter who makes millions early on doesn't always have the hunger necessary to succeed at the highest level in the pros and often isn't tested sufficiently in case someone knocks him the eff out. Just look at Jermain Taylor in America. Well off bloke, gets a shellacking off the media, lots of unsatisfactory fights, often vs men from smaller weights, etc etc. And then you have Khan, and we all know what happened - timber. Yes a medallist can make lots of money, in mediocre fights, and it all gets very boring, and you seldom see a complete pro get developed. If he makes his money early, I doubt he makes lots later on.

I doubt De Gale's going to go with a traditionalist promoter, or one that promises to take his fighters to their potential (Hennessy, Hayemaker), some brindges burned already etc. With Olympians turned professional, it often becomes the big tease. i.e. "is he really that good?" A question that never really gets answered from fight to fight, due to temperamental flashy boxing, and carefully selected competition.

Calm down.

Financially, Khan himself has been a huge success (at least for himself and his large family).

Despite getting KO'd in one round, he will still have more fans than any other prospect in this country e.g. Murray & Mitchell. In fact he may even have more fans than all other prospects combined.

He has been overhyped yes. And he has a shaky chin. But even still - he is now working with Freddie Roach and rumoured to be sparring with Pacquaio in the next few weeks. He hasn't done too badly for himself.

But this doesn't change the fact that I want to see him knocked out again, even more brutally than before.

Eh? We were promised a star fighter and world champion, and we got a guy who had to come off the floor to pick up a commonwealth belt, steered well around the British and European fighters for an 'eliminator' against a chump from Denmark, then stretched in 54 seconds.

Total flop.

Kozy Galaxy - i was using Andre Ward to illustrate how the sum of £2m is an over valuation.

I think we all know why Amir earned the money that he did.

It's because of the media friendly and 'multi-cultural Britain' package that he personified. He was a young asian, draped in a Union Jack and wearing a GB tracksuit. Since Naz, there hasn't been a popular Asian-British fighter - and Amir ticked all of the correct boxes.

The reason he was paid so handsomely was not because of his ability as a pro boxer, as that was yet to be established. He was picking up £100k a fight for the first few and then bagged a lucrative Reebok contract to boot, due to his Bolton connection.

But in reality the above is a separate discussion from this topic's.

That articulates the whole Khan situation very succintly. Good man!

Turnabout is fair play. Haye slagged him off, Degale has every right to return fire.

I think a lot of you are underestimating the chav demographic too, this country's up to it's tits in them and Degale's one of their own.
What did Haye actually say?

If he slated DeGale off for no reason(or because DeGale refused to go with Hayemaker...)then Haye is already turning into young Fwanky!

Khaosai-Galaxy is a bit of an arse but he has a point. But depends on what your definition of success in boxing is. If thats being a great pro, winning and defending a world title in the process beating great opposition then Khan IS a flop as believe or not Galaxy my arsey friend there is more to life than money. Take Ruben Olivares - came from a wealthy background but fought for the glory that comes with being a great fighter. But if your success definition means making a shedload of money you don't get more successful than Khan the be chinned wonder.

Naz isnt Asian.......

OK, here we go again.... No boxer, in the history of the world, has ever gotten paid because of his ability. Boxers get paid for what they bring to the table, wither ticket sales, PPV buys, TV ratings or a belt that the promoter wants for his fighter

Boxers getting paid because of their ability in the ring?

hilarious that anyone on a serious boxing forum even thinks this is something that has ever happened
