he 'ducked' Swaby apparently

I'm not sure he's still there to win.
This Tokarev is a powerful but crude and limited fighter. A prime version of Williams would've beaten him failry easy in my opinion.
Don't let the record fool you
Don't know about the Russian fight, but he sure came to win against Bell, Kelvin Davis, and Rydell Booker. All 3 fights were close (and he was easily beating Bell before he was stopped). He's a stubborn old guy, and I would be surprised if he's just there for a payday.

"I'm not interested in micky mouse fights for KFC titles. I want proper titles, and proper opponents and that's what I've got next week."
How can you not like this guy? :D

Some people on this forum seem to dislike people with ability. 'Playa haters' as the Americans on the current scene would say.

These people have more interest in domestic or area quality fighters and those whose best achievements will be the Southern Area Championship.

These people are best ignored! David Haye is a fantastic boxer with excellent skills, great personality inside and outside the ring and a fighter who has realistic world title aspirations.

Perhaps people should criticise less and support more instead of the tired 'chinny', 'guard too low' and 'opponents record flatters to deceive' nonsense that is ever more frequent on this forum. Their is a wide gulf between constructive criticism and 'Playa Hating' something which certain members of this forum would do well to remember.

This seems a little like Haye taking on Carl Thompson, perhaps that is what this bout could lead to? I think it's an excellent choice of opponent. Good on Haye, if he comes unstuck it won't be a disaster at all really, he's early enough in his career to bounce back, and we will get to see if his power is really grade A.

I heard that his defeat against 19-0 Rydell Booker (June last year) was actually a close fight, despite the apparent wide score in the end. This one poster on another forum put money on Booker (who was -350 in betting terms) and was very relieved he got the decision, cause in fairness he scored the for Williams.

He was particularly impressed with Williams' stamina and he did truly expose Booker. The fight took place in Detroit, Booker's hometown.

yeah good point. If he loses, yes it's a blow, but he will learn alot, and he would of lost to a very experienced opponent, who was once world class. like you say, it's no disaster.

The usual questions, what shape id Williams in? how much notice has he had?, how long will he be here prior to the fight?

like others have said, he fought only a week or so ago. He should be pretty sharp.

It was like 96-94 at best for Booker, and you could've made the argument that it was a draw or Williams won. And like I mentioned, he's two years removed from a SD loss to IBF champ Davis and was handling O'Neil Bell before getting stopped.

i like haye, and i remember clearly 1993 when williams lost a very close, hard decision to cruiser world champ orlin norris.

he got whacked in 3 rds in the rematch by norris, but norris is a thickly built, strong heavyweight.

am i the only person who thinks the choice of king arthur is just a bit FOOLISH...?

i think king arthur is going to chin haye.

Going by Williams' record you have to give Haye a lot of credit. A slight step up from Hastings Rasani.

I have a feeling Haye will keep his hands high for this.

Haye has got to be one of the most confident fighters in World Boxing. I have a feeling he thinks he could beat pretty much anyone by some of the things he says.

I would like to know the better guy who apparently turned him down.
