Seen him fight a couple of times , won his first fight lost 13 on the spin since also thought a bit more confidence and he could have beaten Vinny Mitchell, Seems to have settled into a jurneyman - I know bills have to be paid etc but seems a shame a young fella seemed to be game with talent.

won 1 (KO 0) + lost 13 (KO 2) + drawn 0 = 14
Fights again Friday, You think with the right training notice etc , he could do something?

Couldn't agree more, I thought he could have done the business against Mitchell. The kid has talent, I know bills need to be paid etc but I reckon he's a British title contender at least if as you say he can get the right training notice and get off the journeyman track.Daveyswan wrote:Robin Deakin

The last 2 times Deakin has been over in Ireland fighting he has fought the Hyland brothers. On both occassions he stated very clearly before the fights that he wanted to win and was going to win. In fact the last time he was in Ireland he was out at an AMA show the night before with myself and James Paisley and Robin was toying with the idea of hanging up the gloves if he didnt beat Hyland. I'm glad he didnt as both Hyland fight he fought have been classic tear ups and great for the fans to watch. I heard a rumour that he might get another crack at Mitchell and hopefully now that Deakin is getting a few more regular fights we might start to see some wins on his record.
Deakin did discuss making a few changes to training and promotion before but nothing ever came of it, I honestly think with some serious training and hard work (lose the laid back attitude I suppose; who eats one lemon and put on 6lbs over night - fat lad.) he could progress a lot further. THe kid has talent to burn but needs to focus an work hard, esp on stamina.
On a side note, he is a crackin fella and really sound bloke. He has a number one fan in my 3 year old daughter, who just has to watch him fight everytime he is on the TV. Even though he was going to steal her shoes and throw them in the harbour in Carrick lol. She thinks that Robin is her best friend and is all chuffed she knows someone how is on the TV lol. Though he aint as cool a Peppa Pig

One of the odd things about British Boxing is that the only way (it seems) a fighter can get regular work is if he is a serial loser.
Other similar fighters are James Tucker, Paul Royston and Johnny Greaves.
They seem decent fighters, but always put in with opponents who are slightly above their level.
But it's these guys who are getting 10 or 15 fights a year. This, alongside other work, would make for a decent income.
Good luck to them- It would be great to see them get a win.

Deakin's record is very misleading. He is always in great shape and comes to fight. As Gareth mentioned he is also a thoroughly nice fella and gave both Hyland's enough trouble. Shame he has lapsed into journeyman mode, but that's not through lack of winning ambition I can tell you!

I'd say he is certainly better than his record suggests. Being a journeyman, he usually fights away from home, and as such the referee is naturally inclined to favour the home fighter slightly.
I've seen lots of fights with journeymen that I would say are pretty close, but are usually given with a comfortable margin to the home fighter.

He was signed by allegedly and trains with Graham Earl. He looked sharp on his debut but after losing to Rom Krauklis he fell on to the journeyman side.
A weird thing is Krauklis has only won 2 fights, both fighters are from Crawley and trained at the same gym when amateur.
I was there for his fight against Mitchell as well and he threw it away. For him to lose on points in a 4 round fight after he knocked Mitchell down in the first was disappointing. It would have been a huge win for him and got his career back on line.

He did have a great chance against Mitchell but he seemed to blow up in the third round. Odd that he wasn't fot enough to go a hard four rounds. Maybe ambition goes alongside training and notice.
