That is what we have been told. If we get a new rulebook, it should address that rule change. It is only going to be for the open-class boxers. Novice boxers will stay at 3 2-minute rounds.

I don't mind the change. I think the reason is that we may be going back to some type of round scoring and 4 rounds would cause there to be more bouts to go to tie-breakers. The round scoring (20 point must system) is just a rumor right now, but it could happen as the ESS isn't working very well.

i personally would like it..it would give me more time to break my opponent down and fight at a slower pace..i hate feeling rushed when fighting so i think it would benefit my style..

That sounds go but the last time I heard they were supposed to change the rules after the olympics and I spoke with officals about the change and ONE of the reason they wanted to go back to 3 minutes was to make it closer to PRO style which they actually thought was a bad idea in many opinions but we'll just have to wait and see I guess.

AIBA has published the new time and weight rules, effective Januaru 1, 2009. 3-3's for the open males; 4-2's (ooops - inadvertently put 5-2's - now corrected) for the open females and the females weights have changed to more closely align with the men's.

I dont know, I was at the PAL and seen that only but a FEW women could go 4-2s, I dont have anything against my women boxer I support them to the fullest but sounds a little bit harsh, theres alot of men who cant handle 4-2s so why would they put that on women?

Sorry, Amy - typo. 4-2's. Jamel - Our women have been competing in 4-2 minute rounds in the U.S. for several years now - just not internationally. Now, it extends to international competition.

I don't understand why they didn't just make it the same for men and women. Equality? Where are the women boxers? I would think they would be upset that the leaders think they aren't capable of handling 3 3-minute rounds.

I think they should have men and women both go 3 x 3 for the open class. The novice class can be 3 x 2-minute rounds.

The women, who now box 4-2's in the U.S. (and this was voted in on an equality with men basis) were given the 4-2's internationally at the same time the men came back to 3-3's. I'm sure the AIBA medical commission feels that the 4-2's (total of 11 minutes) are safer than the 3-3's (total of 11 minutes). And, then again, who knows what AIBA thinks or why. I guess the Women's Commission can put in legislation for 3-3's at the next Extraordinary Congress. :witzend:

Goofy.
