Michael Gomez has been around on the boxing scene for numerous years now, and surely there aren't many who doesn't respect this man for what he has achieved in his career and his life. He currently holds a fantastic professional record of 35-9-0 (KO 24). This Mancunian hero is now in the twilight years of his fantastic career in which he has fought and beat the best. I still believe that he has still got a good run of fights left in him before he retires.

Whilst the title is misleading- he was cleared of all charges, I believe, what happens in round 5 is beyond belief.

I cant believe nobody mentioned he fought at Light middleweight on Sunday.

He was 150lb and his opponent was 153lb i believe.

He won in 2 rounds !

I started a thread about that bout- caught me by surprise- I think Gomez took it at the last minute- fair play to him!

That said, I think his opponent had a 3 wins to 22 loss record.

He's been in some superb fights. Inconsistent fighter, definitely. But fantastic stoppages of Euro level names Arthur & Kirakosyan. Even the losses to Johanesson and Khan - when well past his best - were riveting. Another excellent performance was vs Juuko (despite Juuko's leg injury after taking a jab, and coming off beatings at world level), a very one sided fight.

Looking back at Gomez, he had a really good pressure style. Really compact professional. Billy Graham has been taking a lot of stick of recent - and Hatton has become a one trick fighter - but he seemed to have taught Gomez very well. The conditioning didn't always match, though, which seems to be what caused some slip-ups.

Plenty of drama in his career. Like Thaxton, Gomez's had one of the most watchable and exciting careers in recent UK boxing. It's not all about winning the world titles. Lots of his fights that I need to catch up on.

Regardless of who taught him, he was a good pressure fighter with all the punches and some decent head movement. Yeah?

Yes a case of one man b eing razor sharp and another frayed at the edges. The first punch of the fight dropped Juuko (a jab) which seemed to give him a leg injury.

That is what I said Damian, although I detect a hint of sarcasm in the reply there. The post I was replying to was directly linked to his time with Graham. If it was directed to his time with Brian then of course I would point out the stuff he did under Brian. No one doubts what Brian did for so many of his fighters, least of all me, especially after Pat's chapter and verse on the guy
