Look at his defense/timing before and after, great waste he didnt show up against Campbell (literally), because he would have been P4P no1 in the makingALI wrote:He has improved Guzman based on what?
Guzman was always a class act with emmense natural talent, Stevie Wonder could train him to be a world champion!

Mayweather Sr has produced and nurtured the finest talent of the last twenty years. That's all we need to say.
Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
I don't quite think that's fair. I beleive a great many trainers, presented with a child from an athletic genepool and able to train him from being a toddler, could produce something special.Gray-Fox wrote:Mayweather Sr has produced and nurtured the finest talent of the last twenty years. I think Mayweather Snr is slagging Graham off because he then has a ready made excuse if Hatton doesn't perform well against Maggi, he will look to put the blame on Grahams past training methods.
its all bollocks.

Maybe so, but at this level & with Floyd snr declaring that he's the best in the business, there should be improvement in Hatton even if they have only worked together for what, eight weeks total come fight time?Old bones Ian wrote:I think Mayweather Snr is slagging Graham off because he then has a ready made excuse if Hatton doesn't perform well against Maggi, he will look to put the blame on Grahams past training methods.

If Floyd snr is as good as he claims, we should all see improvement in Ricky come Nov.22, simple as that!
Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
That's an awesome article, Terry. First, on getting the scoop. Graham comes across as having real class. Well done for Billy.Terry D wrote:Graham has his say. It can all be put to one side now.

Second, the assessement of MAyweather as a trainer is spot on.
Fab stuff.
Of course, I disagree about your prognosis for the match, and your reasoning for the shoddy performances against LAscano and Urango, but the article is great.
Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
I recommend the Watts fight if you wanna see Paulie at his very best with non-fooked hands.Terry D wrote:Thanks mate. I should say that I'm not jumping onto a bandwagon, had quibbles about Floyd for yonks. I just wanted to show that Floyd can be pulled apart just as easily as he is pulling Graham apart.
I cannot see Paulie winning, well I can but the chances seem remote. Need to re-watch his fights ASAP. I think the fact he stays within range at times and often leads with the right before hooking off it may be a problem. It all depends.
He is a tough cookie though. And a very nice guy from what I saw of him.
Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
Good article.... I generally agree although I do think you are a little harsh with your opinion of later day Oscar (I guess you could have predicted that response from me). Firstly, this notion that Oscar only fought uncompetitive bouts against smaller men giving Mosley as the only one in which he hasn't.
So Mayorga, Sturm, Vargas, Castilejo, Campas, Hopkins - all smaller men? Fact is DLH has fought 2 smaller men since Mayweather took over (and infact, Mayweather was more involved in the other corner for one of them) - one of these he lost (so can hardly been seen as an uncompetitive match up) and the 2nd was a tune up against a man who had sparred many rounds, and had a similar style to, his perspective future opponent... it was nothing more. The only one of those you can question as top drawer opponent and thats Campas.
Secondly, I know you geniunally scored the Mosley rematch to Shane - how I am still baffled, but then I guess people are baffled at my Calzaghe vs Kessler card - however, surely you must conceed that you are very much in the minority with your card. I know its an opinion piece, and your opinion, but there is no suggestion that the fight was close and that the majority of ringside observers felt Oscar won.
I agree with your criticisms of Floyd though, some of his tactics game plans in the corner just baffle me.... and Oscar's faith in him I just do not understand - when he got rid of Alcazaar, Clancy etc - I thought that was rough... but he sticks with Mayweather regardless of defeats (officially with Mosley II and geniunally with Hopkins) and terrible displays (vs Sturm). If he thinks the tactics he adopted vs Forbes would have beaten Mayweather Jnr, then he would have been mistaken. I just cannot believe he didged Roach.

Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
Well Ricky Hatton was very much the Underdog vs Kostya - but did anyone think he was poor. A 1991 Holyfield (who was champion) would have been the underdog vs Tyson, Hearns was the underdog vs Hagler.
Being the underdog doesn't mean anything..... Vargas was the champion who would go on to beat Castilejo, Castilejo was a champion who would win the Middleweight title after, Sturm is now a long standing 3 time champion. Campas - okay, no doubt.
Forbes was a tune up for Mayweather..... it would have been 18 months between Mayweather 1 and Mayweather 2 - and you'd expect Oscar to fight at 100% (which is what he needed) - he tried the year long absense before... didn't work. He needed the work, and Forbes was the work - it wasn't built as a competitive match up.
You were with the majority of judges, but then Damean Kelly legitimately lost his EBU title challenge, Colin Dunne WBF title fight (the shocker) was fair.

Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
Thats odd, cause usually 3 identical scores stinks of something odd. Shane's reaction says it all and yes the crowd reaction did also. I would like to know the people who scored it for shane in the press - I can't remember one.
Mayweather hadn't retired before the Forbes fight... he announced it after - DLH said the fight (with Mayweather) was in deep final negotations. So why was it a waste of time again? Cause you said so - cause you haven't said why. It PROVED to be a waste of time, but it wasn't a waste of time had Mayweather not done an apparent U turn.
Vargas might not have been the fighter he was - but he was the champion. He was generally regarded as the #2 in the devision - behind DLH's number 1.... not forgetting he beat Winky Wright. So who was the better option at Light Middle when DLH fought Vargas - name him please. Winky? Cause he fought such great names from between losing to Vargas and the DLH vs Vargas canditate - whatever the betting DLH vs Vargas was..... DLH would have been a bigger favourite vs Wright at that time.
Castilejo was not a big event and generally got huge criticism from the boxing media - its not looking so bad now.

Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
Terry, I agree with the majorit of your article, but I don't understand why you think fighting his second consecutive fight at Light-Welter makes a difference, as opposed to his fight after moving up?
He bulks up in weight so much I don't know why this would matter.
And I don't think Hatton will stop him. Cotto couldn't get Malignaggi out of there and he hit Malignaggi with some very good shots.

Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
What's bugging me is not Mayweather Sr taking jibes at billy Graham 'Hatton's been training himself his whole career' etc etc, but the fact that Hatton says nothing in defence of Graham.
Perhaps he was right to leave Graham, i've no quams with that. But we all knew how tight a team Hatton and Graham were all those years and i keep hearing this being said by his current team (Paul Speak repeated this only yesterday during a sky sports interview) so why can Hatton stand by and watch his new trainer ridicule Billy at every given opertunity and not say a single word in his defense?
If he had any remaining respect for Billy Graham he could at least have a quiet word in Mayweather's ear and tell him stop with the heavy insults, but he seems not to give a monkey's from what i can see. It taints his character a little in my eye's![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

Anyone know anything about Lee Beard's son?

Yes, I agree with this- and also I was really concerned with how Hatton was looking in the gym. He seemed to be really struggling.ALI wrote:What's bugging me is not Mayweather Sr taking jibes at billy Graham 'Hatton's been training himself his whole career' etc etc, but the fact that Hatton says nothing in defence of Graham.

Bit of class there Billy Boy.
DD Ali makes a very good point.
Hatton - our man of the people!

Perhaps he was right to leave Graham, i've no quams with that. During this whole debacle, his beloved Billy appears to have been dropped from a very high height and Hatton (our man of the people), from what i can see, just does not seem to give a shit.
If he had any remaining respect for Billy Graham he could at least have a quiet word in Mayweather's ear and tell him to stop with the heavy insults that are in some way leaving a bad mark on a trainers name, that in my eye's did nothing but good for the sport! But Hatton seems not to give a monkey's from what i can see.

This one's gotten under my skin so much i've started a new thread on the subject
Re: Hatton - our man of the people!
And for what its worth, i dont normally give a flying fcuk about the shenanigans that go on outsite the ring. But the way Billy Graham appears to have been treated by the Hatton camp just does not sit well with me.
Billy Graham was good for the sport. That much i know!

Re: Hatton - our man of the people!
Its trying to change the Pscyhcodinamics of the case by untruths, so the root problem will go away. But it will still be there, it always is it wont alter it ,probably make it worse.
. Same as Ali niether do I.
Re: Hatton - our man of the people!
All true from face value, although it is hard to really gauge. Yes, I wish Floyd would shut up. Any critcisms of a fellow trainer are unjust IMO - but its hard to know for certain that Ricky hasn't told him to shut up... he's not saying Mayweather is right - he is keeping a dignified silence and you can tell that he is embarrest by the feud - well as Graham rightly says its not a feud, as its just one-way criticisms. He hasn't said a bad word about Billy..... maybe he has tried to tell Floyd to shut it - but Floyd is a loose cannon.
I really cannot see this working at all.
One thing in Ricky's defence over the sacking/retirement of Graham. If there was no truth that health wise Graham is now struggling to be a full time hands on trainer - then why didn't Graham say "F you, I can prove I have still got it" and not retire. Thats what any trainer who has been sacked would do, if they still felt they could do it.

Would Hatton have split from Graham if he had beaten Mayweather?
I doubt it!
I doubt it!
Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
Where is my timescale wrong? I never once said Vargas was at the peak of his powers. All I said was that he was the #1 Light Middle out there. He lost to Tito, reclaimed the title whereas Winky did eff all really from the Vargas fight (which he lost) to the Mosley fight. He did nothing to warrant that shot/unification fight more than Vargas.
I guess you must be pretty good if you can call a world title challenge an exhibition.... yet when you have discussed the career of Naz you never class the Robinson fight as such.

Re: Floyd Snr blasts Graham again - arrives in the UK today
Very strange!!!
I started a new thread on this forum earlier today titled 'Hatton - our man of the people!". I described how i seen the situation between Hatton, Graham and Mayweather in pretty much the same way as i did on this thread. I thought and still think the subject deserves more attention. Strangely, i pop back on here a few hours later to find the thread missing and that it has been encorporated into this thread (perhaps to narrow down its audience?).
Now it could be the mods on here trying to eliminate double postings covering the same subject, clearing up any clutter etc. But i fail to see why my topic was undeserving as a stand alone thread. The focus of this thread was on Floyd Sr's arrival in the UK and his fued with Graham. My thread was focused on Hatton's behavoir towards Graham after their split and how i felt the Hatton camp had let Billy down. Hardly the same thing!
Do we have a rat in the kitchen perhaps........ a spy in the camp?
