Tarver Vs Dawson October 11th, who ya got?

Post by Chambers2 »

Tarver looked very impressive last time out against Clinton, although it's difficult to know how much of it was down to Clinton not performing. Tarver's always difficult to look good against tough, because he's got an excellent jab and ring generalship. Hes a stylistic nightmare for most and I think that had a lot to do with Clintons under performance, CW just didn't have an answer and when he tried to push the pace he got picked apart (no disgrace in that against Tarver).

I've not seen much of Dawson other than his fight with the 'Road Warrior' and as I recall it he was lucky to get the decision (excellent name on the record though). Dawsons definately got the advantage of youth on his side, but Tarver can make it hard for Dawson to work and negate alot of what he does. If Dawsons as open as I remember him in the last fight (its been a while, so don't hold me to that) then I think Tarver could be in with a very good chance here...... basically what I'm trying to say is Tarver is 9/4 at the bookies and I don't think that's a bad price, what do ya reckon?

Like Dawson here, think Woods' performance flattered Tarver whose snap has seem to have gone from his punches.

I think Dawson deserved the decision over Johnson, close fight but right guy won.

mmmm well i'm going to buck the trend here and go for Dawson, youth and pressure to win the day.

Tarver did look good against Clinton Woods, but Woods was very passive that night, and i feel that Tarver flattered to decieve, as he hadn't been impressive for a while before that. Dawson will be alot busier than Woods was, and has a bigger punch.

Dawson on points.

I'm picking Dawson but Tarver has a chance, Dawson is wide open when he tires and has been knocked down several times towards the end of his fights. Should be a good fight.

Personally I thought Johnson won by a slim margin, and almost had Chad out at one point. Perhaps it's his immaturity. Still, with the exception of Hopkins Tarver always steps up to the plate for the big occasions.

Dawson will get a split decision.

Not the biggest Tarver fan in the world but I do fancy him to beat Dawson, as someone earlier mentioned Dawson has been down a few times & Tarver should have the power to hurt him, Taver points or late stoppage, undecided as of yet.

Would like to see Dawson win but I feel Tarver can expose his vulnerabilities in this one. Dawson has speed and a touch of power but only sneaked past the veteran Johnson while Tarver pounded Woods on the same bill.

I'll tentatively pick Dawson on a split decision.

My money's on Dawson for this one. The key for Dawson is to get his combinations flowing as early as possible. That will be the key in order for Chad to secure a late rounds stoppage. I certainly see him winning a comfortable decision.

Granted, Tarver can punch, has big fight experience, but I think his win over Woods was a little deceiving. I mean, Woods didn't deliver onthe night, he under-performed in my view. Not Tarver's fault by any means, because his job was to get the win, which he did. Dawson is a different proposition altogether than Woods.

Dawson could even box at SMW if he wanted to. I'm pretty sure he could make 168lbs safely?

Depends If Dawson's chin holds, Woods didn't do anything though and made Tarver look good.

Dawson pounds out a wide points decision. Tarver doesn't have the activity rate, stamina or toughness to press Dawson and take advantage of Chad's own stamina problems. The pace will be slow and Dawson will be all the better for it. He won't be pressed and he won't be bullied. Tarver ain't Glen Johnson. Dawson will have a much easier time with the Magic Man. Hand speed and crisper combinations win the day for Chad.

Johnson couldn't quite finish Dawson off. Just didn't quite do enough. It's easy to get sentimental with Johnson. Dawson fought down to Johnson, Johnson fought well, in appealing underdog fashion. Fight was close, & naturally most ppl wanted Johnson to win.

Dawson will beat Tarver pretty convincingly. Tarver's not going to fight well against someone younger than himself, with better skills. Yes, Tarver could land the big one, but I reckon this will be like Eric Harding-Tarver 1. Hopefully the last of Tarver.

Tarver-Woods didn't tell too much. In a match between a deluded Yank and a defeatist Yorkshireman, the deluded Yank has the advantage, because he believes in himself. As such Woods never got round the southpaw stance.

Tarver is old and flattered by the Woods result, he was one-paced and had poor stamina, Woods just made it easy, came in straight lines and was reluctant to let his hands go.

Johnson could make anyoen look bad.

And as a fan of the sport, I think we NEED comprehensive wins for Dawson, Pavlik and to a lesser extent Calzaghe.

If we have narrow margins or wins for Bernard and Tarver.....the PPV Senior tour will continue for at least another 12 months.

Does anyone really want to see Hopkins v Tarver II, or Hopkins v Jones II or worse still Tarver v Jones XVII

I'm quite looking forward to this one, I've just had a lickle bet on Tarver in the end, because you can't rule out a Dawson UD in this one, but I still think 9/4 are good odds on Tarver

Damn straight. One of the problems might be that today's young'uns simply don't know enough, because of their lack of in-depth experience, to rid us of these fossils; that's why the creakers can hang around so long, because these days it takes until you're in your dotage as a pro to accumulate the ring experience/smarts that fighters used to have in their physical primes, thus enabling the ancients to hang when they really should be sitting on their porches, counting their millions.

Or that's my take on it, anyway. On that note, Manny P somehow sparking De La Hoya would be a plus as well...

I expect Tarver to win this inside the distance. I'm not really sold on Dawson but I'm hoping he proves me wrong and retires Tarver.... I'd hate to think at 39 Tarver represents the future of the divison.

there ya go, my first post done and dusted.

Woods was on the Bunce hour on Setanta yesterday tipping Dawson. Suggested it was more a case of him losing the fight with Tarver.

I'm going with Tarver - he's proven over the years. Late stoppage in an exciting fight.

That's an excellent point - too true, fighters don't fight often enough or against good enough opponents to acquire the skills that a fighter in the 50's or 60's would have.

I'm a pick Dawson in this.

Tarver looked ok against a very poor Woods, but I expect Dawson to bring a lot more to the table than Woods did that night.
