Who will be Australia' next World champion?
Who will be Australia' next World champion?
After last sunday' results, who is the next rising star, contender to win a World title?
This year alone Katsidis has lost two world title bouts, Gostellow had a shock loss and Porky lovett failed in everyones expectation to dispose of Tiger Tim Bell. Now IMO these guys were the emerging stars of Australian Boxing, but have fallen short of expectations.
Very interested to hear peoples thoughts.

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
There are three Australians that I'm keeping my eyes on: Geale, Zappavigna and Dib.
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
In a blatant show of optimisim i am going to say Dib.Loathe his showboating shite, think he got done last time out but HOPING he has learned alot from that fight.Again-going with heart not head on this one but what the hell.
Think most others are a little way off one of the recognised belts but guess Geale is high on my list. Do think to win against a bigger player he will need a few more stepping stones of some calibre to cross first.
If Mundane ever stopped being just that then it would be him by a mile but money talks and courage/dignity/the potential of him actually WINNING a title from someone WALKS(well walked some time ago,in fact sprinted bloody fast would be more appropriate).

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
Willie Kickett
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
willie kicket as loads of potential but he would like to forget his last fight
lovetts hand speed is way too slow to trouble any of the current world champions although he is tough and rugged
i would rank delisle as a better lhw compared to lovett and he coulnt win a title
the way katsidis fights his body may hate him in a few years and swelling or cuts could prove the difference to him winning or a title or not dont forget he lost to the once underfeated champ by split decision and had casamayors measure so he is most likely
dib we will wait and see he looks like a bit of a pillow puncher but he is in the right camp
depending how he porforms on contender tauasa

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
id say dib or mundine
i dont think geale has what it takes to compete at the top level at 160
and zappa is very exciting to watch , but i really think he will fail at the top as well
kickett has a lot to learn and a long way to go , but he has got the natural skills to do well if he continues to progress
other than that i dont see a real lot , possibly bika or maybe meehan if they get lucky but probably not

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
Be interesting to see how the Darchinian/Mijares fight pans out. The winner of that will hold the Super Fly title of WBA, WBC and IBF (until the different outfits throw up three "mandatories" to be fought in the same month).cace wrote:id say dib or mundine

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
dawson could be ranked 5 in the world by the end of the week
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
Well Besides the fact that Dib Vs Luevano is next week and could be the next champ, the only other fighter' with the exception of Geale are Kickett,Zappa and call me crazy, but i think foley will fair well.
What alot of people have to understand is that Kickett, Zappa and Foley are only 20 years old, and if the people around them are smart, they'll bring them through properly.
For those who put Mundine as a candidate, sorry no interim or vacant titles allowed, champions have to be dethroned.
Is there any way back for Porky and Gostellow?

I tend to agree with you, i do think the cruiser division isn't as strong as the other divisions we have talent in.
So if he can account for himself well, doors will open.

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
There are a few that could win a title, Geale Kickett Zappa Dawson Dib.They all have the talent its just getting them the right fights.
There is also Hatwell and Forsyth from Kronk gym over here in Perth that are really talented. Also DeMori is over in the US fighting. Meehan is fighting for i title soon.
There are a lot of young guys that can work there way up if they are matched up right.
I also think Katsidis can win a title at 135, He has lost 2 in a row but has the power to win a title.

I think Katsidis can win a title @ 135, but he does need to get back to winning, and that's by starting all over again.
I really like Forsyth and demori as well.
Did Demori get a contract through King?
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
pretty sure the dominator did get the contract. His last fight was on a don king card in which he had a ko over some bum. But it is a startHounddog wrote:ben k wrote:There are a few that could win a title, Geale Kickett Zappa Dawson Dib.They all have the talent its just getting them the right fights.

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
hounddog i know another person who has huge wraps on him and that is anthony mundine
anthony used foley as a sparring partner before the soliman fight in melbourne and said he believed foley could one day be a champ and stated so in a paper up here
word is he went very very well against anthony and his father tony was really impressed
he also sparred tauasa and did the same
personally i think it is too early but he does show plenty of promise

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
I'm pretty sure he's sparred Briggs, Briggs was talking about being dropped by Foley on the Di Carlo card recently.
Anyways i'm glad Demori has signed with Don, rather good company to be in if you want a belt.

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
Probably Bika , i think he will be too good for manfredo jr. And manfredo couldnt handle the best in calzaghe and was knocked out in 3 rounds. Bika went 12 hard competitive rounds with calzaghe.
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
If Bika and i think he will, wins against Manfredo which one gives Bika a shot, he's already fought Bute.
Dennis Inkin won the vacant WBO
Mikkel Kessler WBA champ
Lucian Bute IBF champ
Carl Froch fights Jean Pascall for the Vacant WBC
Jermaine Taylor fights Jeff Lacey WBC eliminater.

Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
Hark all the talk about Super Middleweights. Before 1987 (WBA) and 1988 (WBC) if you got too big for middleweight you had to campaign as a light heavy.
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
So we shouldn't talk about SuperMiddle anymore :??Brute wrote:Hark all the talk about Super Middleweights. Before 1987 (WBA) and 1988 (WBC) if you got too big for middleweight you had to campaign as a light heavy.
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
i hope so. it only takes small things to distract people before a fight, and this was no small thing. However, i don't think fighting 1 month after your wedding is very smart either. I think he needs more time to prepare properly because he is now running out of time and chances to make it big (if that is his goal)
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
Yeah you would hope that he enters the rematch without distraction.
Re: Who will be Australia' next World champion?
Not saying that. It is just that suddenly there are so many of the buggers. Greg McNamara was Australian light heavyweight champion in the early seventies and he was a middleweight who told me that he only went to light heavyweight because he was sick of fighting Bernie Hourigan every couple of months.Hounddog wrote:So we shouldn't talk about SuperMiddle anymore :??Brute wrote:Hark all the talk about Super Middleweights.
