Thank you Gray-Fox. I had money on Cleverley and on Roberto Cocco(fight was in Italia and he lost). Now I just very glad that at least Cleverley won :TU:

I thought Cleerly looked pretty good. He won comfortably enough. He also did well down the stretch after a closeish first half. Especially as the late rounds were thought to be Oakeys strong point and Cleverly hadn't been passed 8 before.

He has to also gain credit for not being with Enzo Calzaghe, interesting to see who he know trains with cos it was a one fight deal with his father apparently.

Hopefully he'll be kept busy in 09 defending his title and gaining experience.

Did anyone go to this event?

If so, how did both Smiths, Crolla and Selkirk look?

I know Stephen Smith got his 3rd stoppage in 3 fights.

Good result and performance for Cleverly.

But Oakey didn't look right from entering the ring - he had a gut. He clearly hadn't prepared properly for Nathan. Yes, he had the Fry fight but that's a completely different kettle of fish to Cleverly.

The next logical step for Cleverly would be Francis if that fight can be made. Now, Dean did struggle with Oakey and looked like he was going to get stopped in that 3rd or 4th round - he did manage to catch a second-wind though. Nathan definitely will bring a higher, more intense work-rate to Francis than Oakey did. I would then be inclined to give Cleverly a better chance vs Francis than some people on here are. One thing that didn't get tested in last night's fight was Cleverly's chin - that's something Francis should do. But again, if Nathan's chin is half-decent (and sparring Maccarinelli, Calzaghe and Lockett, I assume it is but who knows) then I can see Cleverly getting another wide decision. I just hope Franky boy doesn't lose momentum and makes a fight with someone who's a step down from Oakey. I mean even Barney, or McIntosh (the guy who stopped Spartacus) would be a decent learning curve for both men, and mainly, Cleverly. I don't wanna see Cleverly in with someone of the ilk of Andrew Lowe or Peter Haymer.

Also, if Cleverly had a little more power then I think he would've stopped Oakey last night - but he's a good little talent.

I think Cleverly has decent power he cut up Oakey who's pretty tough i think he'll stop a few guys in his next few fights now he has experience and knows he can do 12 hard rounds.

He's only 21 and could likely make 168 but looks pretty good at 175 at the moment.

I'd like to see him get back in action late this year or early next year against someone like Tim Bell from Australian who beat Lovett last time out.

A fight or two then go after Francis.

Interestingly it was almost to the day his hero Calzaghe won his world title 11 years ago that Cleverly won his first pro title.

Do you think so... I thought Oakey was inspired vs Francis - really put on a pace.

Oakey had a high workrate and put up a great effort against Francis until Francis finally used his right arm.

I never once said that Oakey didn't have a high work-rate vs Francis - I'm saying Cleverly will have a higher and a more prolonged one.

Cleverley produced the goods against Oakey. Regardless of Oakey not being at his best on the night, it was still a step up for Nathan and he looked good over the 12 rounds.

Shame he's with SN because his career could be worth following.
