Here you go:

Carl Froch talks Olympics, Graham and Roy Jones

25.08.08

I've got to admit, I envy the lads in the Olympic games in China at the moment. What an experience. I would have loved to have gone to the Olympics before I went professional, but it is the pinnacle of the sport. But I was robbed in the Olympic qualifier.

Mind you, I'm not sure I'd have coped with that scoring system. It was bad enough in my day...but it's even worse now.

In the news it said that Ricky Hatton had parted with Billy Graham after all those years and Ricky said that he just couldn't train properly with Billy anymore due to Billy's bad joints and arthritice. Apparently his hands were that bad he had to take injections to numb the pain. As much as Ricky loved Billy it would seem that it was the best move for him to bring someone else in. Maybe Billy wanted to carry on but it took others around him to realise he couldn't do it anymore.

Sadly there are a few others in boxing who also need to turn it in. Roy Jones was an unbelievable talent in his 1990's heyday, but as much as i admire what he has done over the years the stark reality is that he's been smoked in three of his last six fights ! I find it a bit disapointing that Calzaghe has decided to fight Jones after declaring in his autobiography that he would prove nothing by being the third person to knock Jones out.

As much as he says it will earn him good money I can't help but feel he wants to protect his unbeaten record more than challenge himself against a hungry fighter like Pavlik or yours truly. Eubank gave Joe his chance but it seems he is reluctant to pass the torch and would rather keep his '0' intact.

Eddie Futch once said that "In Britain they don't build fighters.... they build records" and it would seem that's the case with Joe. Personally the likes of Taylor and especially Pavlik, are dream fights for me and I would have no problem taking them on at the drop of a hat as I know I have the tools to take care of them both. Pavlik has blazed his way through the best at his weight and as a former Middleweight myself as an amateur, i think it would be a mouth watering tear up for the fans.

Speaking of people protecting their records, I hear Denis Inkin has suddenly recovered from his Froch-induced yellow fever. He is fighting his stablemate Karoly Balzsay in a WBO eliminator fight. My mum is called Carol too and I bet she'd smoke the pair of those clowns. I still hope that Inkin finds a way to win and then at some point I get to bounce him off the canvas on behalf of all my loyal fans who waited twice for him to turn up. Somehow I don't think he will though.

It's a shame Inkin is not as brave as some of my current Nottingham sparring partners who have taken a few Froch lumps lately. I have started back in the Liberty gym at Snienton market over the last few weeks and started hitting the bags. After only a couple of sessions I have been taking the spars apart and am looking forward to a good training camp in Nottingham for my next fight against Jean Pascal. My knee is absolutely fine and am only about 5 pounds off my fighting weight.

When the hard work is done I will throw open the doors and all you fans can come and see me spit some Cobra venom in an open workout!

Good Article! Froch says it how it is, as always.

He's right about Calzaghe not giving the next generation a shot at his crown, IMO Joe should have fought Pavlik or Froch over RJJ. The RJJ fight is the easier option, he's looked at the risk/reward ratio as he has done for the strong majority of his career and gone for minimum risk, i.e. fcuk the fans. He's had the most frustrating career of any boxer I can remember and he's got attached to his O, he's been the SN flagship for years and Franks matchmaking ethos runs through JC's veins, lets hope he's more aggressive with his matchmaking when he's a promoter!

Froch Vs Pavlik is a fight that really gets my blood flowing, it's a fans match-up IMO in a way that Cotto-Margarito was IMO. 2 exciting BIG punchers who are both excellent to watch, Froch won't let him off the hook like Taylor did Froch KO4.

Pascal's gonna get KO'd I've never been so confident of a result

PS Inkin's a prick

I'd never really considered a Pavlik/Froch fight before now, but thinking about it, that really is a mouthwatering prospect I could see going either way.

In fact, thats now a fight I really want to see, it's such a good clash of styles that it couldn't fail to be anything but hugely entertaining for however long it would last.

I think the b-hop fight should tell us a lot about Pavlik, is he another legend in the making or another Lacy.
Impressive shows against Lockett, Taylor and Miranda only make him a work in progress in that respect

I know styles make fights but the fact that he's beaten Taylor twice who beat Hopkins twice suggests he's at least more than another Lacy. But you're right that how he looks against Hopkins will be a good comparison against other top fighters eg Calzaghe. I always thought Pavlik looked like he would struggle against a good boxer - I thought he would loose against Taylor(both times!). But I reckon Hopkins just doesn't have enough in the tank down the stretch and will be outpointed. If Pavlik stops Hopkins, that would be something.

Oh I'm fairly sure Hopkins will make Pavlik look ordinary, even beat him ... maybe.

Froch is a different kettle of fish though and win or lose vs BH, I still hope they meet one day.

I think its unfair to say joe hasnt given the next generation a chance. Lacy was the next ruler in line and joe dealt with him. Then it was Kessler, the younger fresher man, and joe dealt with him. Even Veit was considered some1 who could do good things.

Basically carl is saying he didnt get his chance but to be fair, and bearing in mind im a big froch fan, there isnt exactly a Kessler or Lacy on his resume.

i like carl froch a lot but you cannot deny the fact that he hasn't fought anyone of note and this worries me. I doubt very much he will get ko'd but i could easily see him losing on points I'm getting the junior witter feeling about him wasting his time thinking about jc and not moving on his career fast enough. stay active and fight decent ppl i hope I'm wrong but carl still has a lot to prove it against b level fighters ranking means nothing to me its who have you fought cant wait for dec 6th to find out the answer.

Froch is always talking about someone else, usually Calzaghe and that's because it deflects away from how shite his own record is and how is own career has/is stagnating.

He's about to fight for a World title on home turf in front of a terrestrial audience, he's hardly stagnating

Froch will win a world title and then lose it to someone of the ilk of a Bute, Andrade etc etc

Someone will simply outwork him

Mentioning Froch in the same sentence as JC is an insult.

Froch talks too much bullshit without a resume to back it up.

At least when the likes of JC or Hatton talk rubbish they can point to very good names that they have beaten

Froch really is doing a lot of talking for a guy who hasn't proven himself in the top class yet. He has beaten some decent opponents although quite a few shopsoiled names.

With his left hand so low and his quiet ponderous movement i could see him coming unstuck in his world title bid.

I cant think of a fighter besides Amir Khan who would have so much words to eat if he ends up getting knocked out in his first step up.

Can somebody -- Chambers, for instance -- tell me what Carl Froch has done to deserve a shot at Calzaghe? I just don't get it at all.

And, even if he had done more, which he hasn't, he would get beaten at the top level. I would liqudate everything I had to bet on Kessler if the Cobra ever dared fight him.

Froch has serious weaknesses in defence, which may be covered at British and European level (which is the very highest level at which he can be considered to have fought), but against somebody with a thudding right hand, he'd be in serious trouble, despite a chin that looks rock solid.

Further, I've noticed that he has to plant his feet and really sit down on his punches to get power. At the top level he simply will not be able to stand flat footed infront of opponents and uncork his favoured uppercuts and hooks.

Sorry, but I don't see Froch as a serious successor to Calzaghe, although I'd like to be proved wrong.

I dont either. I see him as a powerful, slow, mechanical guy with the Tommy Hearns/Roy Jones lack of defence, but like amny others not the reflexes or brilliance to pull it off -- at least not at top level.

The same as Salem, Bika, Pudwill etc. the only difference being that Carl is a dangerous opponent and JC wants to keep his O in tact. I've got no doubts that Carl will want to test himself when he gets to the top and not do a Calzaghe and work solely on the low risk/high reward ratio ethos. He's a proper fighter IMO and not a businessman like the Hattons and Calzaghes of this world, Froch IMO is of the same ilk as David Haye, neither are wanting to con their way through their career.

Calzaghe gets KTFO if he fights Carl Froch, as will Kessler, Bute, Pascal and any other 12 stoner that dares to step in the ring with him 8) .... that's just simply the way that it is.

It's all about what Carl does if he does win the WBC belt. He has to look at getting the big defences, if I was in charge of him Id be looking at making the mandatory defence against the Lacy v Taylor winner in America. Im sure Hennessy will try very hard to win the purse bid for that but if he does, seriously Id try and make the fight in America, it would do far more for his stock to go over to America and challenge one of these guys, even if he loses. Personally I dont see Lacy or Taylor putting a humiliating beating on him, and if Carl were to win then in the post fight interview he could say 'look Iv done something here that Kessler and Bute havent done, come to a guys backyard where Im not expected to win, and win.' If that all happened then suddenly a Bute or Kessler fight can happen, win lose or draw Im sure we'd all tune in to watch it.

Like I say tho there's no sense in winning the belt and just defending it in Nottingham.

I like the idea, but it all depends on what's in the MH-ITV contract. I'd like to think ITV wouldn't stand in the way of the fight going on at 2am, but who knows??? I expect Froch to take on the Lacy-Taylor winner asap (wherever it happens).

I've been thinking....... Carl Froch is going to be extremely hard to beat, nobody's gonna knock him out (I heard that somebody dropped a 50 pence piece off the top of the empire state building, it hit Carl direct on the head and 14 passing people were took to hospital with shrapnell wounds, Carl was quoted as saying "I just thought a passing pigeon had dropped its load on me") and if you're gonna take Our Frochy the distance you're gonna have to go through HELL and high water coming down the straight and especially the Championship rounds. Carl doesn't get into full flow til about the 8th round and when he's still throwing accurate powerful bombs in rounds 9,10,11 & 12, just like he was in the first round they're gonna be in a whole world of shit!! Carls just hitting his peak at the right time when the BIG fights are coming, hang on to your pants Gentlemen we're about witness a One Man Massacre of the 12 stone division. BOOYA!! :DDD

Carl Froch is wooden, one-dimensional and will get KTFO when he gets up to genuine world level.

The most over-hyped fighter in Britain today (excluding Kahn).

I will say one thing in Frochs favour. On the recent ITV bill, never once did he go on about himself. Even when he was asked about his upcomming fight with Pascal he just confirmed it without going on as he usually does. I thought he did a good job that night and he never pissed me off once. Well he did just once, come to think of it, when he said confidence and arrogance go hand in hand, and they bloody dont. I am further impressed with his attitude regarding a fight with Pavlik saying it would be a mouthwatering fight for the fans. Saying he thinks he has the tools to beat Pavlik and Taylor is just confidence and fair play to him, every fighter has to have belief in himself. I also liked him saying after the hard work is over he will open the doors for the fans. Do you know Stuart, if he keeps this up, I could possibly join you and others and become a fan. Sorry if you just fell off your chair in disbelief at what you have just read. LOL     :TU:

Even if Froch does win his fight against Pascal, that WBC belt isn't going to turn him into a marquee attraction. What's with all the talk of him facing the winner of Lacy-Taylor? Whoever wins that (which will surely be Taylor) will find Froch easier to swerve than Calzaghe ever did.

Trust me, if Froch does win, it'll be Junior Witter's WBC reign all over again, but with better domestic attendance. It'll have no real impact on the world stage.
