Even if Froch does win his fight against Pascal, that WBC belt isn't going to turn him into a marquee attraction. What's with all the talk of him facing the winner of Lacy-Taylor? Whoever wins that (which will surely be Taylor) will find Froch easier to swerve than Calzaghe ever did.

Trust me, if Froch does win, it'll be Junior Witter's WBC reign all over again, but with better domestic attendance. It'll have no real impact on the world stage.

Fair enough but it took many years for Calzaghe to get into the limelite. With the backing of ITV things could happen for him just as long as he keeps winning.

Oh, I agree, it could. But I'm not really comparing Froch to Calzaghe. Although Calzaghe, prior to beating Eubank made the same noises about becoming the main man, rather than just a belt-holder.

My point is that the likes of Jermain Taylor aren't suddenly going to fight Froch just because he's WBC champion (if indeed that happens). Edison Miranda, for example, is damaged goods, but I'd wager Taylor or Lacy would fight him before they took on Froch. Calzaghe has been able to avoid fighting Froch, even with the 'British showdown' angle. Taylor, Lacy, Pavlik etc won't even have that to worry about.

I personally think 160-175 has entered a golden period of potentially great fights, if that were the case, and it somehow passed Froch by I'd be a little surprised.

I also think Froch has more about him than Witter. I didn't think much of him at first but he's grown on me, There's a ruthless toughness about him, can you imagine the field day he'd have if his chin proved to be as good as say, Joe Calzaghe's?

The best way I can describe it is that there are very few of our fighters who I dont worry about going into a fight, but Froch is in that category.

He just needs the fights... and performances. Also, yank TV got caught sleeping by Calzaghe and will probably pay closer attention if Froch starts to beat guys like Pascal.

I know what you mean but its all about showmanship and promoting Carls beloved City. Nottingham is famous for Robin Hood, Carl likes a laugh so you tell me, ITV want it to be a great night, so why not its near to Christmas. He only has to do it once and people will remember him more than for just being a boxer. The casual fans, the ladies, they will love him and he will earn masses of respect from the true fans. I'm not being down on Froch. I think he's a very good boxer; I've even paid to watch him fight, which is more than can be said for some of his cheerleaders. I just think people are overrating how big he can become.

I'm not comparing him to Witter in terms of ability, more in terms of recognition. Witter was defined by Hatton, Froch is, at this moment, defined by Calzaghe. He's got the time to change this. And I hope he does. It's not a case of ability, more a case of commercial realism. Until people start following the likes of Froch, etc in the same way they followed Hatton, then it's all just talk. Money makes the fights happen. Is that fair? Of course not. Does that make it less true? Of course not.

Froch is always talking about someone else, usually Calzaghe and that's because it deflects away from how shite his own record is and how is own career has/is stagnating.

He's about to fight for a World title on home turf in front of a terrestrial audience, he's hardly stagnating

I will say one thing in Frochs favour. On the recent ITV bill, never once did he go on about himself. Even when he was asked about his upcomming fight with Pascal he just confirmed it without going on as he usually does. I thought he did a good job that night and he never pissed me off once. Well he did just once, come to think of it, when he said confidence and arrogance go hand in hand, and they bloody dont. I am further impressed with his attitude regarding a fight with Pavlik saying it would be a mouthwatering fight for the fans. Saying he thinks he has the tools to beat Pavlik and Taylor is just confidence and fair play to him, every fighter has to have belief in himself. I also liked him saying after the hard work is over he will open the doors for the fans. Do you know Stuart, if he keeps this up, I could possibly join you and others and become a fan. he isn't fighting a faded fighter for a vacant strap like witter did.

pascal is a young unbeaten fighter himself.

Froch is the best freakin talent we have in this country. Give the guy his dues, he has taken care of all who they put in front of him.
