Yes for the lame man that's what I said on BBN isn't it? three broken bones in the neck and a blood clot. As soon as I hear anything more I'll let you know

That is terrible news, wishing Gilbert Eastman all the best. Thoughts also with Sam Webb who must be going through some emotional times also.

Wasn't there some irregularity with Eastman's MRI/CT scan years ago which led to him havng a big break from the sport? Not that I am in anyway questioning this fight, infact it looked a good fight on paper.

I'm in shock - god bless and hope you come through this fight, Gilbert.

Gilbert's brother Nigel just called me to say that he's in a critical condition after the operation but, fortunately, has not broken bones in his neck as was first reported.

Gilbert remains in a critical condition in intensive care.

Apparently the operation to remove the blood went successively but of course the next couple of days will be crucial.

Also all the reports at ringside last night were that Eastman had broken his neck in three places, but his trainer said there is no damage to his neck.

the only way someone could fracture neck bones in boxing is to be knocked down and your neck 'spring' off one of the ropes, im sure this did not happen so therefore im relieved it was a false alarm. as for the brain blood clot. this is a very dire thing indeed, what is in gilberts favour is the fact that he was in the hospital in good time, there is something called the golden hour but this stipulates that the injury should be treated surgically within this time, im not sure if gilbert received his surgery promptly. if he did then his chances are decent. another recent breakthrough is that such is the scanning facilities nowerdays that many brain bleeds can be operated on very precicely with 'burr holes' thus minimising surgical incisions (and skull opening)...i think mark brookes is a good example of this.

the likes of rod douglas did fantastically well after brain surgery, i so so hope gilbert is blessed with the same luck, he deserves it.

god bless.

I hope this thread stays at the very top of this forum, IMO its important it does so.

I sincerely hope Gilly is going to be okay - when I received a phone call this morning I was absolutely horrified to find out that a thoroughly decent person and top family man has paid a heavy price for basically wanting to earn some dough to pay the bills.

I got to know Gilly at the Lennox Lewis College when he was training for his fights & then subsequently when he fought on Hennessy Sports shows.

Gilly is a top top man - like every person who steps into that ring he is a brave warrior and I am positive this forum will forget the banter and the abuse that goes on here and will pull together in their thoughts and prayers in wishing Gilly all the best in the most important fight of his life.

God Bless Gilly - we will all see you soon!!!
