A sensible Marquez/Pacquiao thread!

I know this really belongs in the current scene forum, but i've become disillusioned with the standard of debate over there. It seems that if you don't think Manny won by three rounds or more you are automatically a retard. Rant over.

I side with the few who thought that Marquez won the fight. My scoring was pretty much the same as Jim Watts. I gave the first to Pacquiao 10-7, due to the fact that Marquez was clearly winning the round before the knockdowns. I also gave the second to Manny, it seemed that Marquez hadn't recovered his senses at all. After the second i struggled to find a round that Pacquiao won. I gave him a share of 3 other rounds, but scored the rest for Marquez, giving him a 116-113 win.

Am i mad? All the pundits had Marquez a winner, but the vast majority of guys on the current scene think Manny won by at least 3 or 4 rounds. Sorry again for posting this here but it'd be nice to hear some actual opinions.

I think it was because of the HBO commentators in the US that most people on the current seen think Pac won.
Marquez clearly won the fight!

I had it 116-112 Marquez. Terrible news for Lirva - I've given up betting because of stuff like this. You pick the 'winner' and still don't get paid out. You would feel even worse if you had had a double - Marquez and Sarmiento!

Las Vegas judging - and refereeing - stinks. Joe Cortez is probably their best referee and every time Marquez landed a genuine body shot he was warning the Mexican to keep them up. I hate seeing that. It spoils the fight for me.
And even Freddie Roach was saying to Pacman he needs a big last round - so how can one judge score 115-110 to the Filipino! Marquez showed incredible courage to survive the first round, claw his way back into the fight and pull out a victory against all the odds. The incompetency of the judges sullied his finest hour by calling it a draw.

There are no words to describe how I felt when I heard the judges score.

That's 2 times I've been fuckin screwed now. Golota beat Byrd, and Marquez beat Pac. I HAD 200 ON MARQUEZ AT 4/1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm never betting on boxing again.

Don't you get your money back if it's a draw with some bookies? I recall reading a post in which someone got theirs back.

Thanks for refreshing my memory Bennie! I knew there was something else i had forgotten to moan about and you just reminded me

Body shots, the art of the body punch is trying to be outlawed by overzealous refereeing, Marquez landed with plenty of good bosyshots which appeared to score tom me but as soon as Pacquiao felt them he looked at the ref and pointed "low" to which the ref responded with a repremand! He had already indicated in the pre fight instructions that both men had high shorts so he would be more lenient, it seems that the fact these refs tell off fighters for low blows a number of times but do not take away a point indicates they are not convinced that the shots they call low really are, but more of a stern warning to stop fighters doing it so often so they don't have to make the decisions...it's far fetched but why else?

Yes, I got my money back, but I should have got more. When you make a straight bet on a fight, in the event of a draw you get your money back I think. At least thats what happened to me.

my initial thoughts were "fixed" for more big money in a rematch.

Pacman only won the first two rounds imo (admittedly the first one was 10-7)

Yes I got my cash back on the Golota/Byrd draw ( I bet on Byrd ). Though a friend tells me they just did that to keep me coming back for more. They could have kept my money apparently.

As for the verdict, it really seems split. HBO went for Pac Man, Sky went for Marquez.
Fightnews had it 113-112 Marquez.
Maxboxing had it 114-111 Pacquiao.

I thought Marquez won it, and looking at their faces after the final bell I thought Manny and his corner looked disapointed, like they thought they had blown it.

I was there at ringside as you know, and I find it laughable how anyone could score that bout for Pacquaio.

He did very little between rounds 3-10, I only gave Pacquaio 2 rounds and a share of two others. However the first round should have been scored 10-6, there's no other way to score it. How can you possibly say Marquez was dominating the round before the knockdowns, he would have had to have rallied any dominated the rounds after the knockdown to claw anything back.

For those who are interested I scored it one round to Marquez, as did Steve Kim at Max, and Trindad Guzman at fightnews. There were quite a few who thought Manny won, and every single Filipino saw the fight with their hearts and not their eyes, and gave the fight to Manny merely based on the 1st round.

i think the 10-7 thing is because some commisions have it (if there is more than 1 KD it's 10-7) including the WBA i think, but it;s not under the inified rules.

Jim Watt scored it 10-7, which confused me, cos i assumed it was 10-6 also.
