macklin is fighting geard ajtovic, fuckin good fight if you ask meTerribleTerry wrote:26 I have had it confirmed that Macklin is fit and ready to fight the fearsome TBA on the 31st so that is something at least - the headline fight might still be a pathetic joke but at least the local lads will get a run out even if it is in marking time fights. What is Dean Powell doing that means he cant announce the opponents less than 2 weeks from the first bell? I know the general lack of sun means more time on the sun beds than usual, but this is taking the mickey!

I heard Atjovic had been suggested as an opponent but havent seen it confirmed officially. 18 months ago I would have said that match was a pick em but Atjovic seems to have lost his ambition/motivation more recently - his undoubted talent alone cannot win him fights where his workrate is too low. Macklin will out work him, if not outbox him. Still, as you say its a genuine match IF it comes off.

Nice to see allegedly.tv is still hosting the poster for the bill as it was originally advertised when I bought tickets:

Nothing like up to date info.
According to SN's website the bill now consists of:
Schedule
Friday 31st October 2008
Aston Villa Events Centre, Aston, England
Don Broadhurst vs. TBA
Thomas Costello vs. TBA
Mo Nasir vs. TBA
Tarik Quaddas vs. TBA
Matthew Macklin vs. TBA
Well done Wazza

Don Broadhurst vs TBA for a title is the thing I find most sickening about it.

They do confirm elsewhere on the site that Isaac Quaye is the opponent Stu - a fighter from Ghana with a brief 1-1-1 pro record.stujones wrote:Don Broadhurst vs TBA for a title is the thing I find most sickening about it.
Still, why is the original fight poster still being advertised on the site? The main British title fight was moved off the bill (without a reason being given) over 2 weeks ago.
Leaving the original line up on the promoters site with phone numbers to order tickets could be either seen as lazy, or deceitful.
Where this particular promotional outfit is concerned I am not sure what the case is anymore..

Oh come on..... a guy with an 8 fight record is fighting a guy with a 3 fight record for a prestigious belt.
That is fecking rediculous - no other way to describe it.... The BBBoC, Commonwealth Council should be ashamed of themselves.

I agree entirely Stu - its a ludicrous match to be considered for title status.stujones wrote:Oh come on..... a guy with an 8 fight record is fighting a guy with a 3 fight record for a prestigious belt.

Still, it fulfills FW's ticket promise of 'Championship Boxing' so my £40 is safe in his back pocket.
