McDermott out of Williams rematch

Post by Shirow »

Heartbreaking news for those who witnessed the first fight. It's been reported that John McDermott has injured a rib in training.

Apparently there is no truth to the rumour that the rib was cracked from the inside.

You're the driest fkker on here.

Amazing isn't it how McDermott has gotten injured with Danny having that lucrative fight with Botha just three weeks later. How curious.

Quite. To be honest I wasn;t that bothered by the rematch - I though Williams won every minute of eleven rounds of their first fight and that the Board mandated this purely on another ridiculous commentary from Jim Watt.

I agree. Williams was one dimensional trying to flatten him with the right hand all night, but still he obviously wont he fight.

Yet another contrived controversy when an underdog does unexpectadly well.

Williams needs to get on a US undercard and fight a Jameel McCline, get his name back in the mix, stop p#ssing about with British fighters. Wasting his time.

If that was so then it wouldn't it have been more likely for Williams to pull out? I'm pleased this fight is off. Their first meeting was a messy maul, brought to life only by the controversy of Williams' point deductions and the fifth round when McDermott had Danny rocking.

Because it would be difficult even for Danny to claim injury and then fight three weeks laterin a pre-arranged bout....Botha though fat, shot and peripheral will afford Danny some much need exposure to fans in the US, despite the strange venue.

If Danny could build oin this with a fight versus a Briggs or Golota (though Golota was reported to be fighting in China for the WBC belt? God knows how....) then he could remarkabl;y get back in the top 20 mix and from there anything is possible. Though the annexing of all the belts by giants reduces his chances to virtually zero, while ever Maskaev and Ibragmiov had belts he had a sniff.

Williams won 9-10 rounds versus McDermott, and like him though I do, I though Frank Maloney's comments after the bout were empassioned but plain wrong.
