Barry McGuigan - What's he up to?

Post by calcuttakid »

Has anyone any update on McGuigan's new plan to take over Boxing De La Hoya style? There are rumours circulating that he is making approaches to good amateur and pro fighters to join him and he is trying to get a managers and promoters licence.

Anoither rumour is that McGuigan was told to F-off by Chris Eubank after he made an approach for his novice son. Eubank told him he would never be involved with his son after years of slagging him off during his own career.

Any firm news of this and how the TV compnaies and other Teams are reacting to his antics?

I think BN said last week that rumours were suggesting De Gale would be under his guidance.

I think he`d be too nervous of going against SN to get a promoters licence .. besides what money is there to be made on the bottom rungs of the boxing promotion ladder?

maybe he`ll do a similar role to what Colin McMillan did with Audley in the early years ... I just don`t really see the benefit because the likes of Warren/Maloney/Hennessy would do the job much better for an olympic medal winner.

The Irish market is a hot bed at the moment, maybe his name will let him get a foothold there. He could probably get an RTE deal if he got the right kind of fighter.

Surely he'll have a foot hold at ITV- which is a great starting point.

Barry McGuigan's early stints as a commentator on SreenSport were legendary

"No way Eubank can win, he's got nothing left!"

5 seconds later

"I dont believe it, what a punch from Eubank, oh its all over"

Just watch any close fight from that era for Barry's profound statements and "no doubt about that's"

every single time he opened his mouth you knew full well the opposite was going to happen

His son Shane McGuigan goes for an Ulster U/21 title this coming week, the championships start on Friday. Barry won his U/21 title in 1978, thats a longtime ago now. and Barry doesn't look to bad does he. Must have done something right.

Barry has held talks with Billy Joe Saunders, the offer was for 'hundreds of thousands of pounds' according to reports.
