Khan back Dec 6th

Post by Chris W 1982 »

Just heard the news that Amir Khan is back on Dec 6th.

It says on FW site that Nicky Cook will be defending his belt same night at the Excel whilst Khan will also be fighting at a venue to be confirmed.

Anyone think Khan is gonna be on the Vegas bill????

Yes I do think he will. Also I think this bill will have lots of fights on it.

That is odd, as it was changed to the 13th a month ago because Roach was busy. Maybe it is Vegas after all.

Its amazing how you can go from being sparked cold in 54 seconds to appearing on the undercard on whats likely to be the 2nd highest grossing card in history.

Also means its head to head against Froch on ITV.

Unless Froch is mightily impressive, his result against Pascal is gonna get hardly any mainstream attention.

Watch Froch on ITV in the evening and then Khan (+ Pacman vs De La Hoya amongst others) in the early hours of the morning. A Tiring night, but great. :TU:

I'm going to Nottingham for Froch-Pascal.

I'm not sure DLH-Pac gets many PPV buys in the UK. That Khan is likely to be on the undercard is near enough irrelevant.

It seems unlikely but I really hope Setanta can get the DLH fight off the exclusive Top Rank deal.

Cook, Khan updates!
WBO super featherweight champion Nicky Cook and Amir Khan are both in action on December 6th. Cook headlines a show at the London ExCeL when he makes the first defense of his WBO world title against a challenger to be confirmed, while Amir Khan makes his ring return at a venue to be confirmed. "It means so much to me to defend my title for the first time in London in my backyard and as I'm the only British boxer to hold a world title the heat is on for me to deliver," said Cook. "This time last year there were seven British boxers who held world titles and now I'm the only one out there so whoever the challenger is I'm telling them now - there is now way that belt is leaving me."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Khan has gone back to the drawing board and has linked up with top trainer Freddie Roach at his Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles as he prepares for his comeback. "Although the loss to Prescott was a big blow, it was perhaps the best thing that could have happened to me because it made me realize I had to change things and I've made the right move to Freddie," said Khan. "I'm really looking forward to my comeback fight on December 6 and showing everyone that I am back and have even more determination to reach the top."
Cook maybe the only belt holder .. but he`s forgetting Haye and Calzaghe`s status being above just a belt holder, though I guess he`s using this angle as a pr thing.
As for Khan "it was perhaps the best thing that could have happened to me " ... a loss maybe - but the manner in which it happened?? ... a heavy ko never did any prospect any good.

It does look like he`ll be on the undercard od Pacman v DLH "venue to be confirmed"

Could you see them flying Gethin out? Be cheaper to stick Him in with Wes Furguson, or a Mexican provided by GBP.

Thought he'd be on the Cook undercard in London.

The average SPORTS fan in the UK is gonna take more notice of Froch-Pascal - on ITV1 terrestrial prime time, over a fight between two non-Brits taking place on Pay TV in the small hours of the morning.

Froch isn't losing anything by Khan fighting in vegas on the 6th.

I thought Khan was on Cook's bill on ITV? Not heard anything about the opponent since talk of Gethin.

Let's hope that is the case - We need boxing on terrestrial TV.

Maybe I'm being stupid here, but I don't get it.
Can someone help an ailing man out !
I assume Wazza had options on Cook, and that his defence is on Sky, 06-12-08. (not ITV Hook).
Golden Boy promoting his own show - so how does Khan get on that bill without Wazza giving up Promotional rights ?

Frank W has promoted Cook for a good while, since before the Scott Harrison fight fell through

Can't see Khan getting on De La Hoya bill. He would be on when the arena would be empty.
