On september 11th, Miguel Cotto will one up Felix Trinidad, when he officially inagurates the new José Miguel Agrelot coliseum in Hato Rey. The arena which was long belived to be the venue that would host Trinidad's return to the ring, will instead be utilized by the young contender in his attempt to capture one of the coveted Jr. welterweight world titles. The date and the venue were confirmed as booked by Cotto's manager Peter Rivera of Puerto Rico's Best Boxing, following Cotto's thrilling win over Lovemore Ndou.
Cotto who's hard work has earned him the #1 slot on all the major organizations, is most likely headed towards a fistic meeting, with Brazil's undefeated Kelson Pinto (20-0). But According to Rivera, "This is not set in stone, there are various other options, including WBA champion Vivian Harris. HBO will decide".
Harris is a wanted man it seems. Frank claims that he'll be fighting Hatton. I'll put the house on who he'll be in the ring with come september.
Should be a good end to the year for the lightwelters, if some of these fights actually come off.
I have to say that the guru will be boxrec's own Mystic Meg if the Pinto vs Cotto clash happens. He predicted it sometime ago, actually when he all assumed Pinto was fighting Hatton.
Looks to be official: BoxRec shows Cotto/Harris scheduled for 11. September.
Even if Cotto loses vs. Harris, I'd say he'll get more respect for merely facing him than Hatton will for pasting any number of over-the-hillers, lightweights and all-around stiffs.
(Yes, bit of an inauspicious date, but life must go on - happens to be the birthday of an old schoolmate and best friend of mine, too - AFAIK he still has cake & candles.)

Hardly a "thrilling win" over Ndou but Cotto has a massive amount of credibility. He has talent and is being properly managed and gets great tv exposure because of that.
Ricky should feel embarassed in comparison, considering he was world ranked before Cotto even turned pro.
Always felt this would be a make or break year for Ricky. I remain a fan but so far all the available evidence is towards break. Some fighters lose it in the ring, some fighters lose it in the home, some fighters lose it in the bars and some fighters lose it when signing the wrong piece of paper with the wrong cynical businessman.
I reckon Cotto will walk through Harris.
Harris hit hard enough, but Cotto showed a good chin, and the champion seemed a bit troubled by the light punching Urkal last month.
