On the telecast the commentators asked whether Danny Jacobs has faced anyone in the pros as good as those he faced in the amateur ranks. The answer is the guys he has boxed in the pros are nowhere near as good as many of the top amateurs he boxed in national tournaments in the U.S. or those he faced in International competitions. In the U.S. he boxed Austin Trout, Fernando Guerrero, Jonathan Nelson, Shawn Estrada, Shawn Porter, Demetrius Andrade, Clarence Joseph, Dominic Wade and others. These guys are way better than the pros he has boxed so far. Of course his management wouldn't have him face anyone with those kinds of skills this early in his pro career.

AKA record padding. Most of the time we have no idea what any of our former amateur stars can do until they come up against real competition. Sometimes they win - and sometimes they don't.

Danny is very skilled, but he is young. Will he stick to his training and stay out of trouble? Those are issues that many young pros have to face. He should do very well as a pro. I envision him being a top 10 boxer. Beyond that it is hard to predict as I don't know if he will be able to go 12 rounds or take a big punch with 8 oz gloves and no headgear. We have seen some of our amateur stars hit the canvas as pros. It is a different ballgame and how they handle adversity is another big unknown.

Pavlik handled adversity well against Taylor, but not so well against Hopkins. He let Hopkins get under his skin and dictate the pace and take away his jab. He was very frustrated and it showed. Now how he handles the loss will tell a lot about his character and his future. It is clear that Kelly needs to work on his footwork and head movement.

Rico Ramos is boxing tonight, October 23rd. He is taking a step up early in his career. He is boxing Torrence Daniels who is 12-4-1. Daniels has struggled in the pros, but he was an excellent amateur and won a National Golden Gloves title. This seems to be a big fight after about a half a year in the pros.

IMHO, and as much as I like Torrence, I believe he is now in the "opponent" category. Aaron Garcia turned down a fight with him last month - mainly because of the times they'd boxed while amateur. I'd like to see Torrence get a win......... :?? :??

Torrence is not great, but a tough assignment so early in a pro career. Just remember that if Torrence trains hard he might surprise some people.
Tyrone Harris had a few losses too, but he just stepped up last Friday to win the USBA lightweight title.

Torrence is currently 12-4 and started his pro career almost 4-1/2 years ago. He fights intermittently against mediocre opponents. That said, I wish him well against Rico.

Two of the SHWs that have done well over the last year are pro now. Tor Hamer won his pro debut yesterday and Andre Cathron has his debut tonight. They boxed each other in this years NGG finals with Tor Hamer winning.

Cerresso Fort turned pro in June and is having his 4th bout tomorrow. Keandre Leatherwood also turned pro in June and is also having his 4th bout tomorrow. That is interesting that they are both being moved at the same rate - one in the upper midwest circuit (Fort) and the other in the southern circuit (Leatherwood).

On November 1st, Jesse Carradine and William Jackson are having their pro debuts. Miguel Gonzalez is having his 2nd pro bout, Shawn Porter will have his 2nd pro bout, and Domonique Dolton is having his 4th pro bout. Adrien Broner may be on the card too in his 4th bout. Looks like the night of the rising stars in Cincinnati.

Andre Cathron is fighting Yohan Banks who is coming of a draw against Clarence Tillman too so he should have a pretty decent guy in front of him for his debut.

Carthron maybe wasn't quite ready to turn pro or should have been brought along more slowly. Now he has to really change if he wants a decent career as starting out 0-1-1 isn't going to help him marketability.

i like it when guys want a good test, especially early but he was coming off a draw 1 month ago against a 4-0 guy then fights yohan banks who is coming off a draw against clarence tillman...this isn't the amateurs, a loss hurts a career. I personally demand to have his team fired. ; )

other than the disastrous pro careers of leon spinks & pete rademacher, i cannot think of a single amateur star who faced anyone in their first year or so as pro that even came close to the caliber of amateurs they faced!! let me know if there ever was ANYONE with long-range pro success who pulled that one off...

Graziano will be a very exciting pro, and I can imagine him turning out some highlight reel knockouts.

Well I don't want to get off topic, but should it be that way? The public is constantly victim to these mismatches. Quite often the overhyped propect fights a legit fighter and gets KTFO. I understand boxing is a business and obviously both the fighters and the promoters want to make money. If a fighter gets moved too fast, he risks losing and damaging his record, his reputation, and his money value. It just pains me to watch all these silly mismatches for 24+ fights.
