im sorry your not seriously telling me that you think people cant get drugs in prison?
Of course they can in small quantities. But in prison there are no free drugs and no grannies to bash to obtain them. In prison where i used to take any drugs available but than couldnt pay, it was where I was beaten almost to death to settle a debt where eventually i was forced to see the errors of my thieving junkie scumbag ways. and thats how i changed

Plus prescribing drugs from the government takes the power away from the drug dealers"
So the answer is more policemen. Its arguments like this, from people like you which is turning this country into a police state. Isnt it just better if the smackhead exercised a will, or was forced to excercise his will in a prison so he stops? your argument is that they be given free drugs to indulge themselves while the rest of us work to fund it.....just so they dont dare beat up a granny for £20 as you put it. Rather the whole system bends to them rather than the lazy indulgents pudenda try to stop taking drugs! I stopped so anyone else can
If smackheads stop committing crime, then crime levels drop dramatically! Which leaves the police to get on tackling real crimes, rather than chasing and dealing with desperate smackheads.

I commend you for being able to give up what ever it was you used to do if that's what you desired to do (personally I'm quite happy with my pot addicition and my other recreational activities, I deserve/need it after working fulltime in an IT job), but if you think similar will power is in anyway going to spread across the board then you're still off your head. Which means that we've still got the same problems of mugging, widespread career shoplifters, burglaries and all the other smackhead activities that society has to put up with. We should be treating the root of the problem (the heroine addicts desperate need for heroine), the problem needs to be looked at with some realism IMO. Expecting widespread will power to engulf the smackhead 'community' is not that realism.

Prison is in no way a solution either, because it's easier to get smack in prison than it is on the outside. I know people who tried heroine for the first time whilst they were in prison, "because it was the easiest to get" (=his words).

Who said no one was preventing the offence from occuring in the first place? Again ill tell you there are policemen, lawyers, judges and a legal system, huge subsidies from the nhs, an entire health service and counsellors like me at the beck and call of junkies to stop it happening. if the junkie refuses to take help like i took help to get cleaned up, than thats where prison should come in to help. Again your argument is based on the laughable notion that these junkies should be allowed to do drugs forever, thus putting a burden on the nhs, rather than get off their arse like i did and excercise a will in stopping taking drugs. Isnt that the best form of prevention. The govt is doing all it can, prisons offer drug rehabillitation as well. Fact is lock up these pudenda like i was locked up in a jail cell and have them go cold turkey and they wont die but they will be less likely to take drugs in a prison where there is not the same access to drugs on the street. Also if your so worried about your granny being beaten up for £20 and its a straight choice between the state and tax payers giving these junkies free drugs or putting them in prison where they are rehabilliated through counselling etc i know which argument most sane persons would support
You seem to have the sort of strange notion that the government is in some way winning the battle on drugs or even that they're putting up a decent fight, not from where I'm sitting! The price of drugs has dropped dramatically over the last 20 years and the crime levels have increased. The government are just repeating the same tired old methods that they've been doing for 30 years. They lock the smackhead up, the majority then come out with the same addicition that they went in with or even if they have kicked it whilst in prison they come back out and hang in the same cirlces and they're back on it, then they'll lock the smackhead up.......

The police are locked in a futile battle against drug dealers, because as soon as they lock one up another moves into his place and that's the way it will always be, because of the desire for the drug. Being a heroine addict is a vile existance whether you're getting free drugs or not, have you seen the state of them?

In fact if you have any sense youll realise smackheads are in the top bracket of criminals. James Oyebola himself was the victim of a murderer who had taken drugs earlier in the evening.

yeah but heres the point, if there were places you could go to get prescribed heroin, clean needles etc. that would never have happened to you. you would never have had to rob anyone. at the end of the day, this system we have now doesnt work. ok it worked on you but for the majority it doesnt, what does that tell you? treatment programmes are the way forward.
That isnt the point! The point is that you are arguing to let the smackhead carrying on taking drugs in perpetuity, drugs themselves will eventually kill a person. So basically you are campaigning here for legal suicide if nothing else. And these smackheads arseeholes will surely be in and out of prison, living it up. So its free drugs and than a burden on the NHS u advocate, while the hard working tax payer are funding it and the old and defenceless pensioner lives in fear of it. While we're on that subject how many hospital beds are incorrigible druggies taking up, while old age pensioners cant get a bed for operations? Im shocked you cant see how ridiculous is your futile argument!
If someone is getting free drugs you think that will compel them more to treatment programmes? Thats a joke. Theyll just want to carry on takiing the drugs. Right now there are every kind of treatment plan, but these smackheads invariably dont want to be treated unless they have to , which is usually when they get caught by the authorities .
The beating i took in prison was the absolute best thing that happened to me. taking drugs which had been smuggled into prison in someones arse sums up the former mentality i had. and treatment does work for those who want it.

Yeah and according to some of this lot, they should be given free drugs to make them feel better , after theyve robbed someones house, stole their life possesions, pissed and shitted on their carpets, and bought a £20 pound with the cash they sell the possesions for. Absolutely disgusting, and i agree with all you said.

I don't think it'll be too long before someone wins an election in this country based on a zero tolerance to crime.

It's the biggest issue right now in the country for me. Fook the economy, if someone said we're bringing back National Service, Life means Life, Making Prison a living hell etc then I'd vote for them.

We're producing a generation of namby pamby, delinquent gangster wannabes because of what we let them get away with in schools. PE should be about winning, teachers should be able to give a naughty kid a good crack and those that don't tow the line should be sent to Borstal!!

You only have to look at the low levels of petty crime in countries like Thailand where offenders know that doing a stretch means physical and mental agony that just isn't worth it to see what a difference getting tough makes.

I know this may sound crude and barbaric but wouldn't it be more efficient and cheaper to introduce a three strike system where on the first sentencing you get 5 years(varies depending on your crime), second time you get double and the third time you get sentenced for a crime take them into the prison yard and put them down like an old dog.

Wax is absolutly correct look at singapore, probably the cleanest and SAFEST country in the world, they have crime but not like britain . what do they do we don't they have RESPECT they are made to be educated and they are forced into respecting people and authority, HOW simple they don't n treat everyone with kid gloves and say its not his fault he's a druggie cos his mam hit him .

The people there are all well educated and generally very very polite and nice people , and they don't complain when a teenager breaks the law and the courts sentence him to a FACKING WHIPPING . bring back the BIRCH
Wax i might run for govt, do i get your vote.
Mugabi were soul mates brother you talk sence, you might put it better than me , but you know the difference, with us and a lot off others WEVE BEEN THERE DONE THAT

Pocket after giving it serious consideration , we won't bomb iraq like you said its only al keida not everyone , what i suggest is we bomb someone else and tell them it was al keida whatjamacallit pick someone else we don't like , kill two birds with one stone then .

I still can't workout how you've come up with this crazed theory that I want a police state!! I've never mentioned asking for more police, I just want the current police that we've got to not to spend the majority of their time dealing with heroine related crime, when it's unnecessary and it's not solving the problem

I think you're losing the plot Mugabi. Smackheads are in the 'top bracket of criminals'  the strong majortity of them are shoplifters and petty criminals who only rob to feed their addiction. Obviously the crimes that smackheads commit are real crimes, but they're addicts who are being unnecessarily forced into criminals by the laws of the land. Give them the heroine and it takes away the 'smackhead crimes' and leaves the police to concentrate on 'Real Crimes' that are unpreventable

Gary Newlove and James Oyebolas deaths weren't of a direct consequence of heroine, so I'm not sure how that relates to this.

You seem to be highlighting minor points that I make rather than talking about the discussion in general. I've told you what my plan of attack would be too improve the situation? How would you improve the situation Mugabi, because what's being done at the moment is clearly not working (i.e. wait for them to commit a crime, throw them in jail, let them out, wait for them to commit a crime.......)

My comment saying "Smackheads are in the 'top bracket of criminals'" was sarcasm hence the   . Top criminals are drug smugglers, Paedos, rapists, murderers etc. whereas smackheads are mainly shoplifters and petty thieves.

I don't feel the need to resort to start throwing insults at you. This is my last post on the matter, because you're getting tetchy.

Suffice to say that the current plan of action by the government to deal with the problems we've highlighted over the last page or 2 are not working in any way shape or form and IMO a radical new approach is needed that tackles the route problem rather than the symptoms. The government should analyse the successful schemes (to provide heroine, clean needles and a location) from on the continent and incorporate a copycat scheme

That's the problem with this country now, we believe in rehabilitation.

Rapists and child molesterers can not be rehabilitated.....period. It just isn't possible 'cause they're f*cked up.

Re-offenders can not be rehabilitated either which is why they re-offend.

So why not use a system which gives re-offenders 2 chances to turn their life around and if they can't then f*ck 'em rid society of them by doing the decent thing and ending their miserable little lives so they can never harm another human being or animal again. Yes it may sound barbaric but why should innocent people be at the mercy of scumbags who have no respect for other peoples well being while all of these rehab systems cost a huge amount of resources and effort to run yet there is no guarantee that they will be successful.

I admire people like mugabi for actually turning their lives around and wanting to help prevent people from going down the same route but they can't guarantee they can be successful, at the end of the day it is down to the individual themselves whether they want to turn their lives around and if they have no intention of turning their lives around then f*ck 'em why should society suffer when you can just get rid of them and not have to worry about feeding or housing them.
