Boxrec Record Error Rafael Marquez vs Tim Austin

Post by bruisedtoe »

For the February 15, 2003 bout between Tim Austin and Rafael Marquez, Boxrec.com states, "Both fighters down in round 8."

I have seen the fight a few times and did not recall both fighters going down in round 8.

I just viewed the fight again, and both fight fighters were not down in round 8.

Although both fighters were hurt in round 8, Tim Austin was the only one to go down in round 8.

I just watched the 8th round and can confirm Marquez doesn’t go down.

I will make the round available by ftp for any editor for verification if needed

I recall Marquez almost going down in the round, but he definitely did not suffer a knockdown.

The editor probably got the info from Royce Feour’s report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal who writes;
“Marquez was throwing bombs with such force that he knocked himself off balance and his glove touched the canvas.”

For those of U who have the tape handy I would ask if the referee called a knockdown, a slip or missed it completely.
The BoxRec editor’s comment seems to be technically correct, but misleading.
