Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
any more word on how Rickys training with FM Sr is going? Where's his gym now, is it open to the public like Billys?

I'm no Hatton fan but he really must have done something bad to provoke the kind of hatred you have for him

And you did two of the wagging finger emoticons and he only did one. Anyway, you're right. As for the Hatton fight, I really think he might lose. He really has looked bad of late, and watching some of his old fights show just how far he has technically regressed.
Further, he is hopeless against counterpunchers and runners and southpaws, and Malignaggo ticks all those boxes.
Hope I'm wrong, but I suspect this could be Hatton's Steve Cruz moment.

I'm really struggling to pick this one. Hatton of a few years ago would have steamrolled someone like Paulie.... wouldn't have conceived he could lose. But this Hatton isn't anywhere near the Hatton that beat Tszyu, or the Hatton of a few years leading up to that fight IMO.
That said, I think Paulie's overrated too... and not nearly as tidy as people would have you believe.
I expect Ricky will prevail, in a pretty shit fight - and plenty of people on Paulies side will cry robbery.
To be honest, I'm really not that excited by this fight at all...
For my money, Judah beats them both at 140.

If W had used the waggling fingers, Iraq would be sorted so much sooner.
From memory, Zab wobbled him twice in that fight; once early (possibly the third) and once later on (possibly the seventh), but not sure.

Short fight, and Castillo's subsequent form has taken the shine from the fight somewhat.stujones wrote:Umm Castillo! He looked pretty good throughout that fight.rhino222 wrote:malignaggi on points.....
hatton is nearly 3 years past his peak, in that time he has looked world class against urango for 3 or 4 rounds thats all....
Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
Yes Zab wobbled him but big difference is Malignaggi is regarded as a soft hitter whereas Judah should be regarded as anything but.
Will be interesting to see how many shots Paulie lands clean of Hatton who does often look poor against slick fighters and still at this stage in his career hasn't actually fought that many (Mayweather, Collazo...Hutchinson??)

Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
I think Hatton will be too strong, Paulie won't be able to stop him in his tracks, therefore the Englishman will steamroll his way to a clear enough decision, 2-3 rounds, and he won't get interference from the referee this time
Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
From what i remember cotto was tagged just as he missed a big left hook and it was alot more to do with balance than malignaggis power. I am having money on malignaggi to stop hatton, hopefully he can open some of those cuts and work them.
Hatton just doesn't seem up for this fight in my eyes, and i believe paulie can be a great boxer when he needs to.
Hoping for a malignaggi stoppage on cuts, but my brain is telling me a late stoppage for hatton or UD.

Hatton looked poor in his last fight but has clear pedigree whereas Paulie hasn't impressed me at all. Hatton by UD.

This one, then one more and that'll be it.......if he has Pacquaio, DLH or Mayweather in his last fight then he'll retire with two losses in my opinion.

Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
When I first heard this fight announced I thought Hatton would win comfortably, but now I am not so sure. Too many changes in the Hatton camp and Mayweather trying to change Hattons style may make the fight more even. I can see Hatton reverting to plan B, going back to the way he has always fought, if he slips behind. If Hatton was to lose this one, it would be a disaster for him. Losing to Mayweather Jnr is one thing but Malignaggi is another. Most I think would say Hatton is on the slide should he get defeated again.
Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
I genuinley don't see Maligniaggi winning this.
Hatton should be fighting at welter and against the best. He may have lost to Mayweather but atleast he went Prime V Prime against a HOF. No point wasting his time against small fighters

Why?
He's a light welter full stop, he's already proven he can't fight at the higher weight class. It's not as if he's doing a 'Cotto' and boiling himself down dangerously to make the weight and then coming into the ring like a middleweight. If Hatton was struggling to make the 140lb limit then I could understand your reasoning but I think he's well on course to make 140lbs for this fight too.
Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
His natural weight is considerably large due to his awful lifestyle out the ring. He can drain himself to Light-Welter. But the division is a poor one. Hatton should be fighting at WW. Why fight in a mediocre division, when the Welter is the place to be? Is there a reason why Hatton is choose to Miss Out.banjo wrote:observer1 wrote:I genuinley don't see Maligniaggi winning this.

Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
I don't really think Mayweather at this stage off his carreer can or will teach Hatton much , Ricky just really has to get back that fitness he seems to have lacked in his last few , but if it gets rough sure has eggs are eggs he will revert back to what he knows best, but has long has his fitness is back to what it was a couple off years ago and his speed is still there, something a new coach would be making sure off, well you would hope so at least, then i think Ricky should catch up and probably be a bit too strong , if not though it could be a hard night at the office for mr hatton.

Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
Ricky Hatton JUST after the KT fight would have won against Malanaggi. However since that fight there has been a steady decline in his performances.
Another reason people think I am mad for stating Hatton will lose the fight is because Malanaggi is a non puncher - let me remind you nor was Maussa, Collazo, Urango or Lazcano and not one of those fights was easy for Ricky Hatton. The Collazo fight was especially diffcult for Hatton due to Collazo's slick box and move style - Malanaggi fights in exactly the same style.
Hatton's punch resistance is shot to f*ck and he seems to tire badly in the later rounds where Malanaggi keeps going - In my opinion Malanaggi will not have to punch that hard to have Hatton in big trouble in the later rounds.
People state Hatton will be too much for Malanaggi - all I can say is Malanaggi coped well enough albeit he was beaten against Cotto - are people saying Hatton is far superior to Cotto? - I don't think so.
The biggest reason of all for me stating Hatton will lose against Malanaggi is the "Kerry Kayes" factor - I have seen first hand what Kayes does for Hatton right up until that first bell ringing - Hatton has never had to think for himself with regards to his preparation - he does now - whilst Mayweather Snr is a good trainer - he doesn't have an outstanding professional like Kayes in te camp
Overall - I see Malanaggi beating Hatton in the later rounds if he is hungry for it - if it goes to points - I hope the result does not stink the place out - because if that final bell rings I honestly believe we may see the most controversial result in years!!!

Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
We've seen exactly why he has chosen to miss out, because he's unlikely to win. He beat Collazo on a razor thin decision, Mayweather while not a true welter was just too good for Hatton, I'd expect Cotto, Margarito, Williams, Mosley, Berto, Cintron and even Clottey to beat him with relative ease. I see your point though as obviously he'd make a hell of a lot more money against somebody like Margarito.observer1 wrote:His natural weight is considerably large due to his awful lifestyle out the ring. Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
Hatton's going to lose by KO.
Paulie cant punch a lick but he's got speed to burn and enough technical ability and variety to beat Hatton up on his way in for as long as Hatton can take it. Judging by his last fight, that wont be for 12 rounds.
Of course, thats assuming Paulie's form of late is due to a lack of motivation rather than a genuine slide in ability. If he's genuinely lost a step or two for whatever reason, then it's a closer fight.
I'd love to see the Hatton of old make a special one-night only reprise, but history's not on his side.

Some exaggerations there Spud IMO. How was Lazcano and Maussa difficult - Hatton probably lost a maximum of two rounds in both fights.Spud wrote:Ricky Hatton JUST after the KT fight would have won against Malanaggi. However since that fight there has been a steady decline in his performances.

How is his punch resistance shot to fornicate - he fought a bigger puncher in Lazcano than alot of his opponents and was never hurt.
How do you know he hasn't got a nutrionalist on board? Also I've worked with proffesional nutrionalists and they say you only need to be day to day on someone who hasn't listened/learned. If the person has learned then the nutrionalist job is limited.
I aint saying your overall prediction is going to be wrong, but I am saying that based on I don't like how Mayweather seems to be teaching him too many new tricks.

Lazcano hangs with Hatton, but loses

Lazcano's best rounds came in the eighth, when he caught Hatton with two left hooks, and in the 10th when consecutive left hooks to the side of Hatton's face left the champion wobbled.
With Hatton appearing hurt, English referee Howard Foster stopped the action to give Lazcano an unexplained warning, twice having to push the challenger back to stay in a neutral corner. Before the fight resumed, Foster sent Hatton to his corner to tie a loose shoelace. In all, more than a minute had passed, and Hatton had regained his senses.
Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
Hatton wasn't hurt vs Lazcano. There was a period in which Lazcano appeared to build some momento - the only round he won IMO, but Hatton was hardly on the verge of being stopped.
Re: Hatton v Malignaggi, who wins and why??
Hatton definitely looked fragile in those late rounds vs Lazcano.
Lazcano's a decent operator but Hatton had the look of an undefeated fighter who had been sparked in his last fight, slightly panicky, very uncomfortable late on and a very dodgy ref intervention which let Hatton off the hook.
