ALL championships have "gone back" because of the increase in titles available ... end of. Why keep harping on about the Commonwealth title? Witter-N'Dou was a very high quality match up that would probably eclipse a lot of "world title" fights. The Commonwealh council are no worse than most of the bodies out there and are probably better because you don't expect the two best contenders to be boxing for it due to the plethora of choice.

There may have been some cack matches for it, but the title is not cack, not yet. The WBF is clearly a cack title. The commonwealth title still holds value. It can lead to bigger and better or offer a fighter of this level the chance of championship action and increased wage.

Witter vs Ndou was a good fight, brilliant - showing the belt is still capable of producing quality fights. Magee vs Thaxton another one. However, its this increasingly worrying trend of using the Commonwealth title to sell bills - stripping champions willy nilly cause the original main event (not involving the Commonwealth title) cannot go ahead.

I'm not talking about how years ago the Commonwealth belt was considered cack, cause it wasn't...... I really like fights for the rainbow belt. However, its this VERY recent phenomena - since a certain promoter has gone back to Murdoch land, I am concerned - and I am sure I am not in the minority.

Let the likes of Burns, Broadhurst etc tell their mammy and daddy they are world champion by winning the WTF championship against Borat or something - don't have a lovely little belt being disrepected like it. Its a traditional stepping stone title, with far more history than these Intercontinental belts - its means the world to the fights and is a spring board. You telling me that Broadhurst's fight is a geniune spring board for world honours. I'm not going to have egg on my face if Broadhurst loses, cause that simply means he is cack and not mean his opponent is on the verge of world honours.

There is no tradition with the WBU/WBF - no heritage.... let them be abused.

Hello everyone,i will be defending my "cack" title on the 23rd January i don't mind what people think{honestly}i take all comments,whether good or bad on the chin so to speak,maybe i was lucky to get a title shot,but saying that,i trained very hard for the fight and put everything into it,i'm hoping to defend it a couple of times and then going the British/European route{all being well}there are some really exciting fights out there,will i achieve it,who knows,but i promise you it won't be for the want of trying,once again i'd like to thank everyone for their comments,good and bad and hope everyone is ok,thanks....Paul Truscott.

A simple question for you Whiteboy.
This has nothing to with Broadhurst specifically but we have here a 24 year old, who's had 8 fights, none beyond 6 rounds. Two of those were against Delroy Spencer
Every one has gone to the referee - other than once in Bolton when he got a TKO against a kid with an 8-4-1 record.
HAS HE EARNED THE RIGHT ?
Worse than that - subject to what you believe - the kid in the other corner is 1-1-1.
Justify this fight being for a title.

but i don't see the problem with don getting a shot, there's not many out there in the division and i believe its hard for him to get fights. here's a question for you, what exactly do you want him to do to 'earn' a shot at the vacant title

I can reel you off 4 Africans unbeaten at the weight with more wins on their records, and all who have fought the Championship distance.
Nongqayi, Matyhila, Mbamba, Sekotswe.
All more deserving of their chance.
Why don't they get it (or rather why does Broadhurst get it,) well maybe it's something to do with Promotion.
Even if Broadhurst gets his chance why against an African with a 1-1-1 record and not one of these guys ?

To be honest fighters at the lowest weights always got their shot early cause there simply isn't enough of them about to build up your records.
This is hardly an unprecedented fight, most fighters who box for the British have had less than 10 fights, and normally against the usual suspects.
Seeing this is at super fly, there are probably even less fighters available. The best example I can think of is Charlie Magri who won the British title in his 3rd fight after two early stoppages against nobodies.
In cases such as these the board use their common sense and move quality fighters like Magri and Broadhurst(along with many others) into title fights at an early stage

Boxer X 8 fights - none beyond 6 rounds decent lad.
Boxer Y 3 fights - already lost one and drawn one.
Would you sanction that fight for a meaningful belt - which the Commonwealth is (for now) ?
This has fornicate all to do with Broadhurst, it's about the sanctioning body.

The WBU, WBF etc have always been cack.

My point is that the Commonwealth belt used to be prestigious and has a great history.

Now there are matches for it which I don't think should be allowed - but that's only my opinion.

Relative novice v mystery African does not qualify as a match for a prestigious belt.

Yep, the Commonwealth belt does seem to be largely a way of brining in an unknown from the former colonies for peanuts (but a nice payday for them respectively), and hand a cheap belt to a UK based fighter.

A real shame given the amount of talent that must exist between all of the former british colonies. The standard of the commonwealth boxing at the games is certainly often better than the professional matchups on offer for the belt.

Paul - I hope my comments didn't offend, I certainly didn't intend for you and your fight be brought up in the discussion. For me, I'll be honest and say I didn't think you deserved to fight for the title - but I thought your opponent was Commonwealth FEATHERWEIGHT title worthy... and therefore your fight was acceptable and you pulled off, what was for me, an upset and did yourself, your family and your team proud.

You might not have deserved the shot, but you proved yourself that night against a worthy opponent and now deserve to be called a champion. Although on a side, as a fan, I think all your fights should be for the Commonwealth title now -not tune ups. I am sure that is not your fault.

However, I don't think your opponent, or Ricky Burns, were deserving in fighting for the vacant Super Featherweight title and I think that match disrepected the belt. Similarly, when Issac Ward won the belt, neither Ward or his opponent were worthy of contesting for the title - and now Broadhurst.

Its when BOTH guys are not worthy of challenging for the title is when I feel fustrated and that is happening more frequently.
