Post by overhand_right »

was it dannel nicholson & who else in the heavy div. in the 92 olympics? how far did they get?

in 96 all i know is clay-bey lost a dodgy dec to wlad klitschko in the QFs and even gave him a standing 8 count.

how did nate jones do?

fill me in on the heavies in 92 and 96 and their performances...

In 1996 Nate Jones won bronze, I think it was Savon he lost to.
In 1992 It was Darnell Nicholson in the heavyweight division. In the superheavyweight it was Larry Donald.

In 92 Dannell Nicolson lost to Felix Savon in the quarter finals and he was ahead on points going in the third but Savon turn it up and won a clear decision.(91kg division)
In the superheavy 91kg+ Larry Donald won his first fight and lost his second against Roberto Balado of Cuba who won the gold.
In 96 Nate Jones beat a guy from the U.K. in his first fight and a guy from China in his second fight and he lost a one side decision against David Difiagbond from Canada in the semi final winning the bronze in the 91kg heavy division.
Lawrence Clay-Bay lost his first fight against Wladimir Klitchko in the 91+kg.

Yes I remember reading that in Boxing News. Very sad.

Anyone got his fight record or any opinions on how he compared to Savon & Stevenson?

It was said that Balado was giving boxing lessons to Savon in sparring, they probably move Balado up to superheavey so it didn't have to fight Savon because he wasn't really big for a super heavey but he was so fast nobody was able to touch him,his hand speed and foot speed were impressive.
I saw him fight quit often and it is probable that he would have beaten Savon.
It's my opinion anyway.

The guy who Nate Jones beat in the '96 prelims from the UK was Fola Okesola from the Lynn Club in London.
