Mundine not to fight in Perth
The Man's plan to fight in Perth cancelled

Days after taunting Danny Green by saying he was looking forward to filling the void left by the WA champion's retirement, Anthony Mundine has instead left Perth fight fans without a show next month.
Less than a month before Mundine was due to fight unknown Uruguayan Rafael Sosa Pintos, the promotion at Challenge Stadium has been cancelled.
No reason was given on the Challenge Stadium website why the November 12 promotion would not go ahead in WA - but the shifting of Mundine's promotion to Sydney would suggest the viability of Green's arch rival staging his next fight in Green's backyard had backfired.
A statement from Mundine's BOXA International company said refunds for tickets - which ranged from $45 to $175 - purchased via Ticketmaster or on the internet would be refunded automatically to the credit card the tickets were originally purchased on.
Refunds for tickets purchased at a Ticketmaster Outlet must be made at the outlet of purchase, along with the presentation of the Ticketmaster tickets.
Refunds through Ticketmaster must be applied for by 5pm Friday 12th December 2008.
Earlier in the week, Mundine had defended his decision of venue and opponent, saying anyone, anywhere would want to watch him fight.
"It is great to see me fight, no matter who I fight," Mundine told radio 6PR.
"A lot of the press want me to fight King Kong every time I fight. To make these fights happen it takes months … maybe a year.
"With the big fights it takes a while, and I am not going to sit around and get stale. I want to get out there and fight."
"The guys that knock me, and they say I am fighting nobodies, they give me trouble at times. (Last opponent) Crazy Kim … knocked me on my arse. He was a good fighter and he could punch like a horse's kick.
"But I want to show the people the finesse, the charisma and the science of boxing. I want to put on a great performance and a great show for them."
The cancellation will also deny local boxing talent Willie Kickett a chance to increase his reputation in front of a home crowd

Why is it still on the Boxrec schedule? Is Anthony playing games?

Re: Mundine not to fight in Perth
May be the only reason mundine was staging the fight in perth was to help set the stage for the green rematch.Brute wrote:Why is it still on the Boxrec schedule? Is Anthony playing games?
Mundine has now apparently been offered the winner of sturm sylvester so he got his sights set on that now instead of green.
Re: Mundine not to fight in Perth
if that is the case then it's fair enough. He can't wait for a 'could of', 'would of', 'should of', 'didn't' match up with green forever. However, if he fights sturm and loses will he call it quits?adamheight wrote:May be the only reason mundine was staging the fight in perth was to help set the stage for the green rematch.Brute wrote:Why is it still on the Boxrec schedule? That's my take on it too.Brute wrote: ...Maybe the only reason mundine was staging the fight in perth was to help set the stage for the green rematch....
Looks like Green's focus at present is getting boxing gloves on Barry Hall not himself.
It was never going to be a friendly venue for Mundine, and why do it now when you don't have to?
Fair chance the tickets weren't selling like they'd hoped. But to come up with a reason like 'bikies had purchased most of the ringside table seats' as the reason for the venue change...Oh please! How dumb do you think we are?
Re: Mundine not to fight in Perth
all you have to do is look at his last few opponents to see that.COULDHAVEBEEN wrote:That's my take on it too.Brute wrote: ...Maybe the only reason mundine was staging the fight in perth was to help set the stage for the green rematch....

Re: Mundine not to fight in Perth
Mundine -v- Pintos is on at the Whitlam Centre on November 12. It is about three kilometres from where I live, but I could not be bothered going.
Looks a dud fight.
Looks a dud fight.
Re: Mundine not to fight in Perth
he has fought twice outside of Uruguay, both for losses.
dud is an understatement. It will finish in under 4.
another crowd pleaser.

Re: Mundine not to fight in Perth
Mundine just wants to "put on a great performance and a great show for them" and it seems he needs to fight a numpty to do that.

I can't believe how many journeyman Mundine fights, there are a ton of better fighters than the guys he regularly fights.

Just think of him as our version of Joe Calzaghe...El Raincoat wrote:toppity wrote:he has fought twice outside of Uruguay, both for losses.

Calzaghe has a much better record than Mundine.
