New Game --- Tough & Tougher...

Post by Goodnight, Irene »

Your say on who was tougher, with the same basis of the popular Overrated-Underrated thread. First to respond gets in, then we move on, without argument or discussion.

First up, a suitably, "tough" call...

Ward. Although Gatti was better in every other way.

Liston or Foreman?

Liston. Foreman bigger, scarier, probably the harder hitter. But there were times when Liston looked like he didn't even bleed, let alone get hurt.

Sonny Liston quit in the biggest fight of his life because he said his shoulder was sore. George Foreman got knocked on his face, got back up and stopped his opponent.

Ben Tackie. You could set a bomb off on his head and he'd still come back for more.

I gotta go with Lamotta overall one of the ultimate "sponges". Though Fullmer was pretty capable in that area as well.

That one's really tough. I'd say that Chuvalo was MORE of a sponge than Tua, because Tua had his opponents more scared of his power... They're both pretty damn tough, but I guess I'll go with Chuvalo based on consistency (Consistently taking a shelling to the face). :DDD

Physically not much in it, but Hopkins mentally tougher than Toney.

I have a lot of respect for Dempsey's durability --- plenty. However, Frazier deserves the nod on consistency throughout his career. I'll give it to Frazier.

De La Hoya. No mark against Mayweather, as he's a wonderful defensive fighter, but he never proved himself to be as surprisingly durable as De La Hoya. I think De La Hoya deserves the nod, here.

Marvis. He did his best to live up to his old man and the worlds expectaions,
living in your fathers shadows in any industry is a hard act to follow.

A tough amateur who tried his best to go from boxer to Frazier like slugger in
an era of big, tough men who had so many tools. His soft chin and slight
build did not help him.

Seldon was a fun and inconsistent guy that was never going to be more than
what he was....a fragment title holder and an interesting contender. Good against
not so goods and a test for those guys just beneath the best.

Frazier gets my pick.

I also think Foreman was tougher than Liston..in regards to an above post.

actually managed some upsets.

Gotta go with Direll .Although I know nothing about him.
Ive sparred with Cawley when he first turned pro.Or maybe he was still in the ams . I dont remember.
He should have done something with his career, but of course, his "fights" with some of the more well known heavies were very very....suspicious.A couple are on youtube I think.

I have to give it to Walker, but Graham is unfortunate to be matched against The Toy Bulldog, as he gets the nod from me against so many others.
