That's what I'm hoping for (bigger purses = better fighters), so we need to support the tournament in order to get this.whicker wrote:Yeah, although I guess in the scheme of things the money is going to limit the level of the participants.
I guess if it got bigger, and was able to offer a bigger prize, they could expand to include international fighters- that would add something to it.
The thing with tournaments is that it is always more exciting for the fan if you want someone to win- eg the English one. Thats why the UK V USA contender was a good show.
These last prizefighters I have had no particular preference for any of the fighters- I'm a "neutral" so it is really more of a casual interest.

I listened to 26 and put money on Conway. Also lost a tenner on Minter.
Re: PRIZEFIGHTER WHERES YOUR MONEY GOING
Was a really messy night wasn't it?
Didn't fancy Lomax at all and still not a fan of his boxing, but Wright (although I had him the winner of that one) didn't do enough to make it certain. Lomax was throwing so many more punches, and although almost all weren't landing and those that did had little behind them, there is always a good chance that the judges will be swayed by his aggression. Lomax won the final comfortably though.
Wasn't really a good clash of styles all night and it was a shame as I think most had high hopes for Prizefighter in the lower divisions but maybe it is best suited to the big boys.
Also although it was hypothetical, I don't think Prizefighter is something any fighters with serious ambitions in the pro game (eg. Degale) would be contemplating.

Re: PRIZEFIGHTER WHERES YOUR MONEY GOING
Not as good as the last Prizefighter, still well worth watching though. I think having spoilers in there like Wright and Lomax won't help the excitement levels. It's more a question of getting in the sort of guys who are prepared to put it all on the line each time.

Oh Come on, spoilers like Wright and Lomax!!!!
They are not world class fighters, but they are not spoilers. They were the two most talented fighters on show, it was just a scrappy fight between two southpaws.

Re: PRIZEFIGHTER WHERES YOUR MONEY GOING
I've been frustrated enough time watching the pair of them jab and grab their way through a fight to know if they're spoilers or not, and they are both spoliers, particulary Wright. Whenever the going gets tough they both start clutching for dear life. It's effective and the referee's let them get away with it and it's called spoiling.

i had £20 on the quarter final round Lomax, bami , lloyd, and wright to win there fights £120 return, easy money i thought.
never had money on the outright winner but if i did, i fancied bami.

Re: PRIZEFIGHTER WHERES YOUR MONEY GOING
Well i tell you what, if you can tell me a fight where lomax has been hurt, let alone hanging on for dear life, i'll accept that he's a spoiler. You don't win ABA titles by being a spoiler. That goes for Lomax and Wright.
Re: PRIZEFIGHTER WHERES YOUR MONEY GOING
Yes you can. Matthew Barney is a classic spolier and he's accomplished more than Lomax AND Wright.
How good a boxer is has nothing to do with being labelled a spolier IMO. You can be world class but still be a spoiler IMO.

Re: PRIZEFIGHTER WHERES YOUR MONEY GOING
Prizefighter is crap. Full of mediocre fighters, has-beens and never weres. The first tournament was entertaining. The latter two have been dire with very few of the participants prepared to put it all on the line.
Re: PRIZEFIGHTER WHERES YOUR MONEY GOING
I thought the second Prizefighter was better than the first one. Not quite as exciting maybe, but better quality fights overall. Sexton and Burton put on a grand stand finale IMO.
