Well, Maussa has 18 Kos in 20 wins, Urango 16Kos in 20 wins and Lazcano 27Kos in 37 wins. I don think they qualify as non-punchers!

Some of you come out with good points - but to those who state or justify Lazcano, Urango and Maussa as big punchers I suppose you are entitled to your opinions - but what I will state is just look at what happened when all of those fighters stepped up in class and moved into world title contention and see their KO ratio then and then try to justify if they are big punchers or not.

Another argument for you - Myself and indeed many of you were trying to state Ricky Hatton had arrived into the genuine "World Class" bracket when he beat KT and other fighters since then - I actually think he did, I also think even now Ricky Hatton is a genuine top fighter - but I think he is a fighter who is massively on the decline - and if you took the time to see his reactions to the punches he received in the later rounds of the Collazo, Lazcano and to a point the quality of performance against Urango - you simply have to be concerned at how well Ricky will do against Malanaggi.

I am totally and utterly convinced if Ricky Hatton is not completely on top of the fight from the vry outset of the fight then he will be in a whole heap of shit in the later rounds.

Ricky Hatton is an "on top" fighter - he likes to bully his opponents into submission with his sheer volume of punches - I remain convinced Malanaggi will not stand around long enough for Hatton to be able to do that - in addition Hatton absolutely loves his opponent who stands there and wants a fight - not a chance Malanaggi will do that - he will jab and run until he sees Hatton tire and then he will make his moves!!!!

Urango not a big puncher?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn0i1Ys1lMQ

There was a reason why Hatton started on the backfoot and ended holding excessively

I can actually make good case's for both fighter's in this however I do see it being a point's stoppage either way.

Hatton isn't the fighter he once was and on paper should struggle with Paulie's style.

I will go for a controversial Hatton point's win.

Lol, which fight were you watching? Hatton was badly hurt near the end, he could easily have been stopped if he had been caught with a few more.

Hatton was buzzed pretty badly by Collazo, but Lazcano although tagging him a few times never did have him in as much bother that Collazo did.

As for you Spud, you where saying the same thing before the Lazcano fight, eventually you will get it right, because father time is catching up with Hatton, but it's going to take a bit more than Paulie to topple Hatton just yet.

How do people keep saying Hatton is past it ??

He unconvincingly beat Lazcano granted but apparently he had been ill in the build up to the fight and was coming of the back of a KO defeat against the P4P CHAMP.
He lost to Mayweather no disgrace there everyone has lost to Mayweather who have entered the ring with him.
He destroyed Castillo, I know he was way past his best but he still put him away convincingly.
He totally outclassed Urango no question.
He won a close fight against Collazo, his first fight at that weight and against a champ so again no disgrace there.
He KO'd Maussa once he got the measure of him.

I am not stating Hatton is past it - but there is a subtle difference when people state he is in decline - of course Ricky Hatton has some big fights left in him - but I am stating I think Malanaggi and his style of fighting is all wrong for Ricky Hatton.

As for your Lazcano excuses - not buying them I am afraid - I put Hatton's performance down to his life style and as already mentioned his steady decline.

As for you mentioning PBF - please be serious - Floyd outclassed Hatton in every department and could have taken out Hatton when he wanted.

As for the Collazo fight - I remember that fight very well indeed - Fight Academy had just signed Ricky and he was in his 2nd fight with us - many many people including those close to the team when you spoke to them outside of earshot if the press thought Ricky lost that fight - lets not carry on the bullshit here especially on that fight - I had Collazo winning by a round and thats was with my extremely biaised scoring towards Ricky.

The only fight I give Ricky some real excuses for was the Maussa fight - there was so much going on in the lead up to that fight - even on the night of the fight we had to get Ricky out of the hotel early due to some shannigans and there was plenty more going on which gave Rick very reasonable excuses not to have his mind on the fight.

As for your prediction - the only way Hatton wins the fight is controverisally - its in Vegas and Ricky is one of the "Golden Boys" in Vegas - I can see yet another controversial decision that will stink the place out if Malanaggi does not stop what will definitely be a knackered Hatton around the same time as you are predicting the result.

For the record I want Hatton to win - he is british and he is one of the most famous names we have in the sport - my personal view is British Boxing needs Ricky Hatton to win to keep boxing in this country high profile - this fight with Malanaggi is not just important for Hatton - I think its important for the sport - Trust me I want Hatton to win - I just dont think he will

And the key is - none of those hurt Ricky also! I think our expectation of Ricky is slightly elevated cause of the KT fight and I am sure most anticipated a convincing win - but lets be honest, how many rounds has Ricky lost as a Light Welterweight, casting aside the Tszyu fight.

I know I'll probably get the attack of the "personal vendetta" by saying this, but I would love to be able to read the archive posts on here and boxingtalk on the Collazo fight. I remember being very much in the minority in saying that Collazo won by a round. I'm pretty certain at the time of it you were saying Ricky deserved to win.

Stu - you come out with an extremely valid point - at the time I freely admit "towing the party line" by stating Hatton won the fight - I watched the fight with Clinton Woods and a fair few others in the Sheffield Hilton - anyone will tell you there I thought it was either going to be scored a draw or Collazo won by a point.

I admit it was wrong to state something completely different on here - so yes you make a very good point.

If Malignaggi really was the slickster that most people seem to associate with him then I would be inclined to go with Malignaggi late TKO (Hatton fucked, not Paulie hurting him) or Paulie by quite a wide margin. But in truth, Paulie isn't elusive. Ngoudjo and N'dou are more flat-footed than Hatton and they hit him plenty. Cotto hit him a millions times too. I don't see why people class him as a "poor man's Floyd Mayweather" which I have heard him called. Of course, he looked good in N'dou I and the Cherry fight but surely a declining Hatton is so much better than these two? If anyone thinks he's not then they're simply very very wrong, or slightly biased.

And another thing, why do people think Paulie is iron-jawed? I fail to see this again. Yes, he was very determined and brave against Cotto, but Cotto, I believe, was dead at 140lbs. Does everyone forget that dance Paulie did against Ngoudjo in the 5th? It was a clubbing shot and if Hermann had a better punch then I believe he would've put Paulie down, if not stopped him.

Furthermore, I agree with most on here who say the Hatton that fought Tszyu may have stopped Paulie, and most definitely won. I still think Hatton will ease to victory but I reckon it will be a slog for Hatton at the end of the fight. I think we will see him tired late-on if the fight gets into the Championship rounds and he may be hanging on like he did against Collazo. But I see him winning six of the first eight, so it's all about Hatton hanging on late, and like against Collazo - it will be against a non-puncher, so I see him doing it.

collazo was a better fighter than malignaggi and more awkward (southpaw).

throws a lot more punches than paulie does.

malignaggi is not a great mover.

mayweather is a better mover and he never kept hatton off.

hatton was getting close against mayweather.

floyd's just got that great defence.

paulie hasn't got one of those. :shame:

yeah completely agree with that.

i think most hatton fans would confess that this one as a fight is a bit disappointing.

malignaggi is fairly good but there's better out there.

i actually think it'll be a bit closer than 118-110.

maybe 117-111. :D

rubbish.

he had to break ricky down.

and he did that.

my argument was that hatton got close against floyd.

who's a better mover than paulie.

u can't deny he got close against floyd.

it was largely fought up close all the way really.

apart from 1, 9 and 10.

Agreed, Mayweather broke Hatton down - in fact it was the classic dismantling of a fighter.

To say Floyd could have stopped him at any point after the opening bell is severely mis-guided and naive.

mayweather is a better mover and he never kept hatton off.

hatton was getting close against mayweather.

floyd's just got that great defence.

paulie hasn't got one of those. :shame:

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Hatton got close but was battered once he got there or made to miss.

You are an idiot.

Goz wrote:Agreed, Mayweather broke Hatton down - in fact it was the classic dismantling of a fighter.

To say Floyd could have stopped him at any point after the opening bell is severely mis-guided and naive.
Severly misguided and naive - nope - just an opinion - at any stage Floyd Mayweather stepped up the gas he could have made Ricky Hatton look severly inadequate as a world class boxer.

Its my opinion and I will stick to it - I really cannot understand why the insults have to continue - all you have to disagree which you are perfectly entitled to do and I will continue to search for decent boxing debate.

Whoops before I go - nice to see you Goz - how are things?? :TU: :TU:

Hatton UD 118-110
Good reasoned debate there mate - just simply cannot see Hatton winning though!!!

But you put your argument across well.
