Britains only World Champion???????

Post by Gazmac81 »

Got to Laugh at Warrrens latest chant about Nicky cook being Britains only world Champ.

Was this not the same Warren who used to promote shows as having 3 world title fights on
when the main Fights were for WBU title.

Has he started to realise that the WBU is not that great anymore?

I don't see what your problem is. Warren is correct, Nicky Cook is Britain's only current world champion. Secondly, Warren never promoted WBU "world" title fights alongside other spurious world titles unlike Barry Hearn who once promoted a WBF and IBO unification clash. Warren wasn't the first promoter to stage a WBU title fight in Britain. That distinction goes to John Hyland and Shea Neary. While Warren did milk the WBU title for all that it was worth on SKY he made sure the MC announce the winner as "the WBU's world light-heavyweight champion".

The bottom line is that with the exception of Hennessy, all of our leading promoters have staged poor quality fights masquerading as world titles. At least Warren isn't turning boxing into a panto like Barry Hearn has with the mediocre Prizefighter series.

As usual he just goes with whatever suits him at the time.

Today it is 'I have the only British World Champ' - come fight time it will be something different if the WBU is on the bill.

We should all learn to ignore Fwank.

I certainly seem to remember fight posters, tickets and programme covers blaring WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING without any qualifying statement, and without searching for video evidence right here and now, I am more than confident the phrase was always "WBU champion of the world" in the in-ring announcements.

Whow there ,

think your missing my point mate, i merely pointing out Warrens ever deteriorating memory that he
can now claim to have Britains only world champion when according to his records he has many a world champion in the WBU format , when hatton , Gomez Farnell where on his bills it was 3 World Title Fights

Im getting sick of his School boy like ways
How he slates anyone who doesnt sign with him and then if they end up with him Ie Fraudley Harrison ( warren came up with that one i think but has since droped it ) and he then goes on to build them up.

Its a promoters job i know but Folk are really starting to click on to him now.

I wasted good money on this Birmingham Show on friday and i knew for 3 weeks it was changing
but old frank didnt anounce it till a couple of weeks ago.

He really needs to start respecting his Paying public.

I think you're correct regarding the fight posters. My specific point was in relation to what the MC Michael Pass said when announcing the WBU champions. ie instead of saying "the WBU light-welterweight champion of the world", he would say "the WBU's light-welterweight champion", or something to that effect.

:o Are you serious? The Sports Network MC's ALWAYS used to announce those kind of fights as 'world title' fights. And in the red corner, 'the undefeated WBU light-welterweight champion of the world...Rickaaaaaay...Hattooooon."

You can't remember that? Wow. I always thought the MC's would get the boot if they DIDN'T announce the fights like that, such was the regularity and hillarity of the whole thing.

The same applied for Anthony Farnell and everyone else on the production line. The WBU and its ugly sister belts were always promoted as 'world titles'. Anyone that has watched boxing in the last seven or eight years knows that.

No, but I'm pointing out that other promoters have done exactly the same thing and as such criticism should be reserved for everyone who ever promoted these sorts of fights.

Maybe they did in the early days but towards the end I'm fairly sure they announced the winners of such title bouts as "And the winner, and the WBU's blah blah champion". I'm not disputing what was on the fight posters.

SKY, The British Boxing Board of Control and the fighters are as much to blame as the promoters for this mess. Everyone had a choice.

If this Brian Moore is just a casual boxing fan who happens to love allegedly allegedly I'll platt sh1t!!

From nearly every post he's made I've thought, he's either on the SN payroll or works for a PR firm on their behalf.

Either that or he is a totally deluded imbecile who has a room at home dedicated to FW posters and effigies (Alan Partridge psycho fan style) :witzend:

I'm presenting a balanced argument, something which you seem incapable of understanding. Not everything that is wrong with British Boxing is down to Warren. Other promoters have staged "minor" world championship fights and conned the paying public. The Board of Control should have put a stop to this but didn't.

As for classing me as being on Warren's payroll your points are made without any foundation. I've not been impressed with the quality of Warren's cards since he returned to SKY, I agree completely with the above poster who slated Warren for his poor communications regarding the switching of Brook-McIntyre from Birmingham to Scotland, and I detest how the likes of Brook and Cleverly have left their long-time trainers in order to progress their careers after what appears like they have been strongly persuaded to do so. I also find it disconcerting as to how Bradley Pryce and Enzo Maccarinelli haven't fought since the parting of ways between Joe Calzaghe and Warren.

I hope the above highlights to you and a minority of others how wide of the mark you are being.

Hatton and Calzaghe are world champs. Not alphabet champs, but world champs with actual recognition in America.

Haye obviously was also a unified & Ring mag champ, in the cruiser division he left behind.

Cookie's not quite there yet, is he?

I know, you can question Ring mag champs etc etc. But it usually means the guy beat the #1 man in the division.

Shut up man ....his problem is that Warren treats the fans like mugs. The armchair fan may revel in it and believe it, but we know better. Cook beat Arthur...look at Haye, Hatton and Calzaghe if you want true British champions.

If Warren still had Calzaghe, then he would consider Calzaghe as not only A light heavy world champ, but THE light heavy world champ.

Technically Haye is no longer a world champion as he has moved weight class
