Ol' cruiserweight Herbie Hide takes a tricky looking 10-rounder in Russia against local man Grigory Drozd on December 6.
The 37-year-old Nigerian, a former two-time WBO heavyweight champion, dropped down to cruiser some years ago and has won 10 on the spin (eight early), to take his record to an imposing 45-4 (42), since a 'nothing' cuts loss to Lithuanian southpaw Mindaugas Kulikauskas in 2004 in Nottingham.
Herbie can dish it out, for sure, but he doesn't take it so well and was destroyed by Vitali Klitschko in this country in a manner that can only be described as embarrassing, and Drozd poses him a threat at 30-1 (22). Only Germany's former WBA cruiserweight champion Firat Arslan has ever beaten Drozd, although he stopped him in five and that loss tells us more about Drozd than all of his wins. Basically, the 29-year-old stepped up and got 'done'.
Enter Hide, who squeezed in a couple of distance fights earlier this year - both 12-rounders - and should be able to wing the big punches for 10 rounds, if necessary. Moreover, Hide is well-used to fighting abroad, but this really is abroad and the Russian will prove tough, ambitious and capable on home soil (the Arslan defeat came in Germany). It wouldn't be the biggest surprise in the world to see Hide, with all his experience, speed and natural power, force a stoppage but the more likely scenario is a close points win for Drozd.

Points win? Seriously bennie, what on earth are you smoking?

Ive never seen Drozd but hes got a few recognisable wins on his record which provides some sort of barometer. If he can take a shot I'm gonna say he lands on herbie at some point equalling goodnight vienna.

Drozd KO

I don't think this fight will happen in Russia because surely MH, now having slightly deeper pockets, will want to protect a boxer that just got some very good UK exposure. I think more likely this fight will happen on the Froch bill.

Hide in a points win over 10? No chance....he'll get KO'd or KO Drozd...
