Hatton opponent announced tomorrow!

Post by bennie »

Well, according to a member of his camp on his official website, anyway. I'll believe it when I see a lightweight announced tomorrow.

Boxingtalk.net announced that Mesquita was close to signing a few weeks ago, but then came the announcement that the show was being put back a week in order to find a suitable Hatton opponent. Mesquita is an unbeaten Brazilian and has a history of pulling out of fights. Remind you of someone? I think allegedly would really be tempting fate if he chose another Kelson Pinto for Ricky.
Could be wrong.

It's official!!! Ricky's next opponent will be none other than

Fight date, venue and undercard yet to be set, but tickets are available now! Please send your cheque in the amount of Euro 499.95 (ringside), 199.95 (Rows A-F), 99.95 (Rows G-X) or 49.95 (rows Y-Z) per seat to allegedly Promotions, c/o Sky Sports:

Or order from the convenience of your computer via their website at

Hmm ... that page still shows tickets available for the Calzaghe/Hatton card on June 5th ... ticket prices quite reasonable for that one. Might buy a few dozen for my coworkers and friends. Who wants to see that silly De La Hoya/Sturm and Hopkins/Allen card anyway?

If it is announced as Mesquita then i will have officially given up on Hatton and his career like i have with Audley...this contempt for the fans CANNOT CONTINUE. I have no interest in ever buying a ticket for any of his fights ever again if this is the case until he fights a notable opponent. I was close to doing the same with Calzaghe until he announced he was fighting Johnson.

I am prepared to wait untill September, Warren has actually mentioned Vivien Harries. Surely he cannot back down on his word!

If Harries is comfirmed, then I don't mind Mesquita at all (cause Hatton doesn't want to risk that opportunity).

Yeah but it will probably be confirmed as Harris in September and Mesquita now and then come September....no Harris. And then we will start hearing the usual spiel floating through the air... "Negotiations have broken down...money...allegedly...world rated Lightweight" Blah Blah

Harris is listed as the next opponent for Cotto, on 9/11 - fight has not yet been finalized but I'd say the chances of that happening in the Fall are infinitely greater than Harris/Hatton.

And that was a joke about Frank not backing down on his word, right?

Of course.

So what is happening to the WBO title, looks like Judah is fighting at Welter, so I assume it will be Pinto vs ???? - Cotto sounds like the sensible option.

I'm older than Ricky, I'm in reasonable good shape at 10st and have not fought for over ten years.

Am I a viable opponent?

My record on the cobbles is 5-0-1 (5 stoppages inc a few torn shirts and tears).

Mr Warren, GIVE ME THE MONEY!!!! :TU: :TU:

Hatton was doing just fine up until being advised to ditch the British title in favour of boxing for the WBU crap-strap. Since then, despite some decent opposition, his career has had a hollow feel to it.

I love watching Hatton, or rather did, but sadly I've had my enthusiasm knocked out of me as a result of Frank Warrens' style of management/promotion.

I don't ever see myself buying tickets for a Sportsnetwork show.

I'm not going on the 12th neither, I'm not paying good money to watch Calzaghe against a tough journeyman and Hatton against an unheard of lightweight and the rest of the undercard wrapped in the usual Sports Network extra thick cotton wool.

Now that would be a good fight.

I had hoped Ricky and Soulemayne's paths would have crossed sooner, and with the European title at stake.
