give Pavlik a 2nd chance get Calzaghe v Pavlik on!

Post by boxbet »

I dont want Joe's career to be over. I know its best to go out on top, unbeaten etc. But Its great to have him as champ and one last fight against Pavlik would be good to watch. Pavlik coming forward would make a great fight. yes Joe wud win, but another fight to watch and another payday.

Too much risk. Too litte reward.

If you feel there is even a remote chance of this fight happening, you know little about Calzaghe.

Calzaghe should retire now. He has made his money. What i feel is that he should not play the "Legendary" card..

Am I missing something - has Calzaghe already fought and beaten Jones?

Thought Pavlik was quite adamant about not fighting at Light-Heavy again. Super-Middle I guess but I seriously doubt Joe could be arsed to boil down to that now.

Very unlikely fight.

It's as good as in the bag.

RJJ really should have retired by now. Probably more than Hopkins should have.

No point. There was a window for this to happen at super middle. Joe said Pavlik was the only fight he'd go back down for. Then two things happened - Joe beat Hopkins up at light heavy. Pavlik hammered Gary Lockett. Then all of a sudden it was "Who is Pavlik?"

Given that Pavlik has lost to Hopkins, and badly, there isn't really anything to gain for Joe.

That would be so awesome to watch again.

Pavlik's corner would pull him out unlike Lacy's. :DD

It isn't that straightforward though, is it?

Woodhall, Brewer, Mitchell, Eubank all either shook up Joe or gave him a hard fight. Pavlik was more highly rated, and had more upside, than those guys.

It was Hopkins' defensive boxing, and being at light heavyweight, that messed up Pavlik. Joe is not that great defensively.

Pavlik can be quite basic, I'll agree with that. But with his size and his punch and his youth - and if he's found a comfortable weight (maybe 165/6)...Well, he would've done better in a super middleweight title challenge. Crucially, with Joe moving down in weight to 168 one last time. Could have been a neat advantage for Pavlik and enough of a factor on his side.

The spanner in the works was definitely Calzaghe opting to fight Jones at 175 instead of Pavlik at 168. The only big money fight for the remainder of the year was Hopkins, for no title at a daft weight, for Pavlik. (Not that they HAD to take the fight, because it certainly wasn't worth it).

When you think about it, if Calzaghe had been put in the wrong fight, too early, he could have come unglued just as bad.

Well said. Good job the fighters don't look past their next opponent like many on here do.

Calzaghe was on the radio last night saying Jones is his last fight......
