He put in a good showing against Vivian Harris...and would be a tougher fight than the Lightweights that have been strewn about...THEBUTCH wrote:Now that would be a good fight.
I had hoped Ricky and Soulemayne's paths would have crossed sooner, and with the European title at stake.
Hatton opponent announced tomorrow!
I am prepared to wait untill September, Warren has actually mentioned Vivien Harries. Surely he cannot back down on his word!

WHAT!!!!!!! That is the most ridiculous statement I have ever seen!
Warren mentioned Tszyu 4 freaking years ago for christ sake, so mentioning Harris means absolutley Jack sh!t

m`baye?
another guy `famous by association` to a champ (harris)
i can hear ian darke`s voice already after ricky stops him in the mid to late rounds saying "ricky really done a number on him, and dont forget, this was the guy that took harris to the scorecards, so glenn blah blah blah..."
how many more of these meaningless comparison fights do we need to be put through?
and after the massacre the usual "ricky really needs to step it up" chesnuts from mcguigan and co.
fornicating groundhog day.

All I am saying if by any chance September's fight will be for a more prestigious belt (and its a big if) alot of poster here will view will change from saying all of this all this "over protected chump" about Hatton to giving him the full respect treatment. 3 months shouldn't change one views about a fighter so quickly.
Hatton, Warren, and Billy Graham have said 2004 will be Hatton's year in the world scene. We are still waiting, and I am prepared to wait.
January the 1st 2005 is when I will be really ranting on here.
As I have said before, Hatton is getting alot of stick now, and much of it is deserved - but compare his record to the THIRTY THREE YEAR OLD Eastman and Hatton has balls of steel.

Fair point, but have a look at the bbc archives for Ricky Hatton, and you'll see the same choice quotes now, as you did then, and they stretch back 2 years +. Oh, and check the qoutes for Calzaghe, they stretch back over 4 years.
I'm a big Hatton fan, but the matchmaking is getting ridiculous.
It's funny how Mitchell has gone right off the radar as well. He was being talked about as still being a viable opponent for the autumn, but now he has been replaced with this Harris talk, and that's the whole point, it's talk.

I geniunally can't remember them for Hatton, but I agree entirely with Calzaghe.Twinkle Toes wrote:Fair point, but have a look at the bbc archives for Ricky Hatton, and you'll see the same choice quotes now, as you did then, and they stretch back 2 years +. Just think this time last year Ricky hadn't long fought Vince Phillips. Everyone was saying the only way is up from here, then he fights Aldo Rios and takes a step back, then Tackie with two steps foward but then Pederson with two steps back, now we'll have Mesquita which despite the record is another two and maybe three steps back. Rickys going backwards not fowards, Cotto's gonna leave Ricky in his wake when he challenges for a title soon, almost certain too before the vastly more experienced Hatton does.
He's fighting Mesquita according to this site and then Spadafora in October. I want to know what exactly can be gained if he beat Spadafora? fornicate all thats what. Beating a guy who's never beaten anyone himself and had almost all his fights at lightweight. This is fornicating GARBAGE we are being fed, Sky should turn the fights down, they surely have some say in what fights are made. Rickys going the way of Calzaghe who's spent the majority of his career fighting bums defending a meaningless title while his obvious talent goes to waste.
I felt refreshed the other night when Haye fought Arthur Williams, this was a risky fight and he was challenging himself against a proven performer. I was excited when it was about to start and it was great when he took him out in the 3rd. Then the next night we get Danny Williams fighting some unknown African with a massively padded record, the fight ends with a fake injury which was great of course. Then we have to listen to the commentators get hard over Kevin Mitchell when he blows out some guy who hasn't won a fight and hadn't fought in 4 years anyway. The whole show left me with a bad taste in my mouth especially after enjoying the previous nights boxing were a risk was taken. We are being insulted by these mismatches FW puts on for Sky. McGuigan, Watt or whoever should have the balls to stand up and get into FW for putting this garbage on our screens. Larry Merchant after the Margarito and Marquez blowouts a couple months out called the card garbage, one of the Sky guys should do the same because its the truth.
