Ezzard Charles vs Michael Moorer

Post by hoodsyeahright »

I am having doubts over my conviction that Ezzard Charles is the best LH ever. Does anybody think that Michael Moorer could have beaten him in a LH match up?

Would be interested to hear what you think.

I think the question is "Would Ezz break a sweat before the ref started counting?"

Answer: Possibly

And another question that may come up would be "Would Ezz suffer permanent and irreversable hearing loss from the 125+ decibles of Kevin Rooney's sustained screaming bloody murder from MM's corner.?"

Answer: Very Likely

I think Moorer loses, but gives Charles a tough fight.

I think Moorer loses, but the fight is not especially competitive. Moorer has the aggression to se him get knocked out early, & I think it may well happen. Charles has him spent by the mid-rounds, at the latest. Moorer was a great & under-estimated Light-Heavy, but, c'mon...

A more competitive affair would be Moorer vs. Holyfield at Cruiser.

I can tell you're old because noone says caseworker I didn't even know what the hell you were talking about, I guess that makes two of us because you didn't know what the hell you were talking about either.

I know you're suffering from nostalgia and alzheimers so don't worry your self about this thread, instead forget about it and wake up to a brand new day of metamusil and pooridge.

Right, Charles couldn't ice or even knock down a spent Joe Louis who was never sturdy in the whiskers even in his prime, but now Charles is just going to obliterate a prime Michael Moorer? Riiight.

Don the rose-tinted spectacles & suddenly Ezzard Charles can punch like George Foreman. Wow!

I think most observers (and I'd be interested in Jaclem's opinion) would say that after the Baroudi tragedy Charles was not quite as ruthless as he had been.

Moorer was an exciting fighter but Charles once KO'd Archie Moore. Moorer would need a ride on the Space Shuttle to get close to the level of Archie.

Sorry grimm....but a council of carefully "aged balanced" boxing experts from ages 17 to 70 have just confirmed jaclem's opinion as being both sensible and with a near 92% rating in likely accuracy. We have also reffered to the akashic record in this matter. It also seems to rule his opinion as both valid and authentic.

Your expressed outcome of this matter does not appear to show up on the richter scale....or the bathroom scale for that matter. Best get a book out, do a bit of research and feel free to contribute again when you find a topic you are more familiar with. (History of the baby rattle perhaps?) Ah and your hopeful wish that perhaps Ezz was available at that time to partner with you in some sort of wished for fantasy intimacy arrangement, is another bit of inaccuracy that seems to have little in the way of any credible supporting data.

Well see that's where the problem is if you carefully read anything I never mentioned his opinion of the fight I only gave my own. He started with the insults maybe you should pay more attention, hell you're the one jumping to the rescue of another man you sure you aren't in that Emile Griffith category?

grimm...you know me....I never defend personalities....so if jaclem happened to have one I would not be defending that. However your insinuation that those who are well seasoned may have certain deficits caught my attention. So I rose up to strike down your foolish and defenseless position.

Now, sit down and have yourself a Coke.

The great Ezzard Charles was too much for a guy like Michael Moorer. He was above Moorer in all the aspects of the game. I only could see Moorer as much stronger than Charles, but you just cannot win with strenght alone.

Charles by unanimous decision. And it would not be close.

I honestly think that Moorer speed at LHW and his good power would
give Charles a hard fight. I do think Charles would figure MM out,
but only after some good, exciting exchanges by both men.

The version of Foreman that Moorer faced no longer was stopping top level opponnents so one would not have to be a big puncher to stop Moorer.

Not true. Moorer's chin was shaky (not glass, though) at Heavyweight, but he had heart. It took a man with a punch to put him out (only one man ever did during his pomp, & that was Foreman) with a single shot, & Moorer proved against Cooper prior to winning the title that he wasn't a quitter. Michael Moorer was more hearty than ever given credit for. His chin wasn't great at Heavyweight, but you needed a punch to put him away.

The implication of your post is that by 1994, Foreman wasn't a big puncher. You won't find many supporters.
