Sky's shows this season have been poor

* Burns vs Akaba and Norton vs Steeds should have been chief support to better main events.
* Prizefighter II should have had a better line up.
* If Khan is going to be on PPV then an Audley Harrison fight vs a nobody should not be the third biggest fight on the card.

Are things going to pick up or what? Shouldn't Sky demand better from the promoters?

Boxing in 2008 in general has been crap, the only fights which I have genuinely looked forward to this year were Cotto v Margarito and Vasquez v Marquez III.

Yeah i agree Burns vs Akaba & Norton vs Steeds aren't main event worthy and would be decent fights to back up solid main event. I look forward to next Fridays Oakey-Cleverly fight.

Wow, really? Haye versus Macc, Juan Manuel Marquez vs Pac II, JMM vs Casa, Cristian Mijares vs Alejandro Munoz, Cristian Mijares vs Vic Darchinyan, Marg's rematch with Kermit Cintron, Kelly Pavlik vs Jermaine Taylor II... S'not been a bad year for the hardcore anorak.

Finishing up with Ricky vs Mali-whatsisface, the Molitor vs Caballero unification fight, the senior-tour sideshow that will be Jones-Calzaghe, the odd catchweight shenanigans of the OLDa Hoya vs Pacquiao fight & David Haye splattering Monte Barret, that'll be enough for me I think. Then again, as my girlfriend keeps telling me, I'm easily pleased.

I have to be honest, I've not watched one of those shows except the Khan blowout and I watched that online on a stream.

If finances do start to really bite I wouldn't cry about cancelling Sky Sports.

Probably will be the same as usual. Wait for contract to peter out, take few chances, maybe put on a few good fights to attract new broadcaster, who will then pay big money for big names. And the circle starts again.


Goz, I've not watched any of these shows either. Only fight I've watched was Paul Truscott's entertaining scrap with Miskirtchian over the past few weeks. I wanted to see Dolan's fight from that Norton-Steeds card, but it wasn't shown. There is just very little to get up for. Even the Khan show I couldn't watch all the way through.

Got to say I'm not really interested in British flyweights/bantams, so didn't watch Napa & Borudhurst either.

Despite enjoying Don Broadhurst's performance last night, since Warren/SN are back with Sky the standard and excitement previously seen has clearly dropped.

Very sad to see Gavin go pro with Warren. It's like the 'off' switch has just been pressed in terms of looking forward to his pro career. It will be the same old shite as usual, which is a real pity for a guy with Gavin's talents.

I did, however, get a great laugh out of Gavin calling the SN head "the world's best promoter" Pure gold

I also agree. Last night was a good showcase for Broadhurst but who decided that we need a Commonwealth Super Flyweight title after all these years of not having one? :idea:

How does the Commonwealth title work anyway...are random Africans invited over to fight our prospects?

I dumped SKY after England lost to Northern Ireland. I haven't missed it.

Setanta has a been a joy.

Sky wont care its standard offering is weaker as it helps differentiate and by association upgrade its moderate bills as stand-out PPV attractions.

I feel like the wind is already going out of the Prizefighter franchise....as a TV spectacle at least. Does anyone else?

It begs the question, do we really "just want competitive bouts" or do we actually crave star attractions in mediocre match-ups?

I still rather watch Cintron v N'Dou than a Prizefighter series and I still rather watch Williams v Botha than Broadhurst....

There isn't any real excitement in the Sky shows thus far.

Just compare the 2 Oakey fights - vs Francis, vs Cleverly. The first was a real, 50-50 fight and a classic. The 2nd was a showcase, for a fighter on the way up vs a fighter coming off a brutal KO loss. Since the new season Sky haven't been very good.

Agreed. The next few shows are a step up though. I'd much rather see two C level fighters against each other than B v D which is what we've had recently

Two PPV shows in two weeks at £15 a pop is a lot to ask. Still determined to resist them
