Gym to be featured on ABC's Extreme Makeover 11/2/08 at 8pm

Post by DCAmateurBoxing »

Tim Hill's home/boxing facility (Geneva, NY) rebuild will the feature of this weekend's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition this Sunday at 8pm on ABC. I found this story in my hometown newspaper and can't wait to see what they did with his gym. I think that it's great to see someone who is such a proponent of helping kids and the sport we all love get some recognition and support. More info about the project, including a picture of boxer Aleem Whitfield, doing a backflip during the "Big Reveal". I'll be tuned in. . .

Thanks for the info. Hopefully, this really helps out the boxing program in that area and maybe some goodwill can spread to other gyms. Having an amateur boxing related story on ABC could reallly help the sport.

My brother is from up in that area nad he called when it made local news. I believe this story hast the potential to shine a very poditive light on Am boxing. USA Boxing should step in to help in any way. This kind of coverage can't be bought. I am sure that Title, Ringside ,or Everlast is involved to some degree. Come on Mr Millman, What can you as a marketing guru do to make this story even better while at the same time helping USA Boxing as a whole.

USAB could use it as a promotional opportunity for the sport after the fact.

I'm from Rochester, but I didn't get this story until this weekend. Well, I do know this. . . Oscar De La Hoya will be the special guest. Maybe he may actually get to (or want to ) say "USABoxing" in one of his sound bites. Anyone want to bet? Early odds are 100:1 that he won't. :D

Just got these off sportsbook.com:

Odds for Oscar De La Hoya's spoken subject matter on his Nov. 2nd Extreme Makeover appearance
1. He says something about "Golden Boy" - 1:1
2. He says something about "growing up in East LA" - 1:1
3. He says something about "his upcoming fight against Pacquiao" - 1:20 (Guess he's not that big of a shill)
4. He mentions, hints at or even wears anything with the name of "USABoxing" - 1:100 (I'm hoping for the long shot here)

You all are to pessimistic DC, There is now way that USABoxing or Oscar could possibly blow an opportunity promote USABoxing by wearing a USAB warmup and hat. Even Oscar knows that the investment he made in USABoxing is better served by his promotion of it, It is simple business, promote the sport to make a living at, invest in the rising stars by investing in thier sport and soon you wll see returm on your investment return. At least that is the way it is suppose to work. Come on now that you see it so clear, wouldn't it be a big over site to miss that.,,,,,,,,,,but I ain't bettin

I think I am reading a little sarcasm here, just a little. I hope that I am completely wrong, but I ain't bettin either. To be completely fair, I was involved in the advertising and marketing of an Extreme Home Makeover show down here in Maryland and I know that a lot (and I mean a lot) of images, video and sound bites that we felt were worthy of airing - didn't make it. So, even if we don't see any promotion on the final cut, that doesn't really mean he didn't try. ABC has the final say, so maybe we should be focusing our hopeful energy toward the network. We'll see tonight. . .

Very interesting DC. Can you elaborate on the project you were in involved with. I like the show and haven't caught every one. What was the situation in DC.

What a great story. Tim Hill deserves to have a break like that.

It was a really great show tonight. I was wondering if they were going to renovate the gym and wondered "Why would they renovated a leased space?". Great new gym right in Tim's backyard. I really think the show demonstrated what we all already know - that boxing really is beneficial to all involved - kids, coaches, community.

On a more humorous note, I was right on the money about ODLH. :D He said he grew up on the streets of "East L.A."

Well he gave tickets to his fight so that's 20:1 and he mentioned e La tha's 1:1 Glad I didn't bet.
Those kids will love thier new gym but I can tell you that with all the falling paint and leaking roof and cold and crap of the gym we train in, there will still be some very sentimental feeling when we move. You can't repace comming through tough times as inspiration.
