The June 6th De La Hoya & Hopkins bill is on Sky Box Office in the UK.

This seems to be the shape of things to come with Sky

Who here will pay the £12+ for this?

I'm thinking of going actually, can anyone recommend a decent travel company to go with? I have seen one in the back of Boxing Monthly advertised and it is ATOL protected at least. Tickets are from £110 to £440 and it's £800 to stay in the MGM Grand or the Mandalay Bay casino...i't seems a little expensive. Especially if it ends up as Sturm V Allen

I'd pay for De La Hoya VS Hopkins but not that card, we should expect that as part of the subsription package in my opinion.

Are you talking about Oscar v Hopkins Steve, or the warm up 5th June bill? I'd just get a cheap flight/hotel deal over there, then pick up your tickets separately - expedia.com(?) maybe.
Better check into it though, because with Oscar you never know - could be a sell out for all I know, even if he was facing Mickey Mouse
( which he is ).
But I do know some mates went to NY recently and got tickets for Byrd/Golota for $25 each, and apparently the recent Pac Man tickets were going for around $28 i hear...........

Subscription - £40 per month
Average pay per view - £15

Hatton and Calzaghe on PPV - Nope

We get it good compared to our friends across the pond who i think paid $50 for night of the undisputed.

Book flights and hotel seperate from any fight tickets.. If you book your fight tickets by phone you'll probably only pay about £40, given the strength of the pound at the moment.. Phone the hotel where the fights are on to see what they can do for you.. You'll pick the tickets up once you arrive.. When I went out there in feb I stayed at Imperial Palace.. It was a basic room but totally adequate, especially since you don't really go to Vegas to spend long in your hotel room!!

I'll be interested to see what the odds on hopkins are. If it's anything like 2/3 or better I'm dumping 100 on him. Interestingly, my non boxing fan housemates had heard of De la Hoya and consequently couldn't believe that I thought he was going to be beaten...

Damn gutted this is a PPV, and I am shocked - I thought the Calzaghe/Hatton double bill was more likely. I suppose Sky must have tossed a coin over it.

Really aren't sure what to do. If this bout is a PPV, then there willl be little doubt about the DLH vs Hopkins clash. Also, is this the start of things to come - Sky had 3 PPV regulars (Tyson, Lewis and Naz) - all of which are pretty much done. Sky are obviously testing the waters for a new breed of stars - it could be the end of the big American bouts on PPV.

I was really looking forward to this bill, but and if it wasn't for Klitchko vs Sanders I would buy it. If the buy rate is good though - can't see Sky showing other big bouts on the normal sporting channels.

I now expect to see Mayorga vs Trinidad on PPV, what about the likes of Winky, Moseley, Spinks.

There was always going to be a reason why they were showing the big US cards (except for last weekend unless I stuffed up).

However, the September showdown may well be the last hurrah for Hopkins and DLH both, so developing these guys as PPV stars is a little odd.

I don't think this card will sell that well at all. Most 'boxing' fans wouldn't know Bernard Hopkins if they ran over him in th street. Plenty of boxing fans see PPV as something to be avoided, or at least see this card as one with relatively few surprises in it.

Which leads me to ask why they're doing it, because they're shafting their boxing audience which is small, in a way that they're not doing with any other sport other than football and 'wrestling'. I just think this sucks, boxing's fallen into having PPVs. Imagine if England rugby matches, golf majors, Wimbledon, the Grand National, etc were PPV. These are the high points of the year for their sport just as the big shows are for ours. It sucks.

Its a dilemma. Most fight fans want to see the big fights but dont want to see PPV became the norm over here as it is in the States. Yet the more of us who succumb, the more SKY are likely to view the experiment as a success.

However, remember PPV in the states is at prime time. Here you have to stay up all night or watch it the following day - less attractive for those impulse buyers or people who want to get their mates around. For that reason, and excluding the special events like a big Lennox or Naz fight, I think PPV has limited appeal here. Maybe Sky had planned this bill and the Hatton/calzaghe bill to be all one PPV.

Anyway, I'll probably leave this one to last minute and see how I feel - main interest is just a check on any signs of ageing from Hopkins and the lightweight bout which is the main fight of the night as far as I can see.

I am worried about Sky's US coverage however. Since the BBC started flagging, they too have started skipping a few stateside bills. Are we about to get the bad old days back?

You can stay at the MGM grand for about 100 dollars a night if you stay in the emerald tower, which is at the back of the hotel rather than the front, though the availability might not be good. I paid 100 dollars for a big fat room in the main tower, 108 plus tax on a sunday.

However, there's lilttle point spending a fortune on a room if only the more expensive rooms are available.

Use and econo lodge or comfort inn, econo lodge is about 35 dollars a night, and is just off the strip, will cost bugger all to get a cab down to the MGM. There are better places to stay than the MGM, in terms of value for money, though it is pretty cheap nontheless. If I were you I wouldn't waste a fortune on a hotel, when you can put the money to better use.

Go to comfortinn.com and look at the range of hotels they own, which includes econolodge, you will see that some of their places in Vegas are very conveniently situated.

My advice is to go with STA travel, they can save you a fortune on air fares, they get excellent deals. I still have a student card so I save even more, but you can still save a significant amount on your flight.

Try this......44 dollars a night for a whole suite......good if you're there for a whole week.

I worked out how much it would cost to watch every fight in a year on Sky, and I seem to recall at a rough calculation it came to about 1200 quid or so.

40 quid a month plus PPV of between 10-20 quid every time there's a pay per view, takes the fornicating piss.

What really takes the fornicating piss for me, is that I am forced to order all these bollocks channels I don't want, just so I can watch the boxing, I'm not really a football fan, and I don't watch anything other than boxing and major sporting events (olympics, world cup, European championships, Champions league, world and masters snooker, curling, darts championships), so why the fornicate do I need to get the paramount channel?
