The one who called this guy an "America Hero" isn't playing with a deck .... :-? ;;-) :TU:

Plumber's rise to superstar status speaks volumes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Only a few weeks after being cited by John McCain in his final debate with Barack Obama, Joe the Plumber became so inundated with media attention that he was forced to hire a publicist.

In keeping with the modern era, hiring a lawyer may be his next step. The state Inspector General is investigating whether state records on Joe — actually Samuel J. "Joe" Wurzelbacher — have been improperly accessed for political purposes.

Wurzelbacher's speedy journey from anonymity to fame to martyr at the hands of the media says volumes about modern American culture and politics.

Records released last week by the administration of Democratic Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland showed that 25 separate requests were made within two days of the last McCain-Obama debate for public records on Wurzelbacher.

The requests came from The Associated Press, a host of Ohio newspapers and broadcast outlets, as well as national entities such as CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and Newsweek.

Kelly McBride at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg, Fla., said responsible journalists make such inquiries every day. She called it a "completely appropriate" role for reporters.

What may not have been appropriate was if social services records on Wurzelbacher — of issues of child support, public assistance and the like — were accessed by unauthorized personnel for political reasons after the debate.

Job and Family Services Director Helen Jones-Kelley said in a letter last week that no such thing happened. She told Senate President Bill Harris, a Republican concerned about a possible breach, that she would "never authorize or turn a blind eye to accessing departmentally maintained databases for any non-governmental purpose."

Assuming that he hadn't been embraced and featured by the McCain-Palin campaign, Joe the Plumber's story would have faded quickly in the era before bloggers and around-the-clock news programs existed to keep it alive, said McBride.

"It used to be that one of the natural regulators of the news was the amount of space there was to tell the news," she said. "That is not the case anymore. We all have infinite space."

In the minds of the public, the potentially improper access to Wurzelbacher's records quickly blurred with the phenomenon of dozens of inquiries by journalists into his public records — and a torrent of criticism was unleashed.

Reporters likely sought Wurzelbacher's plumber's license the day after the debate in order to find his address and go interview him.

But he didn't have a license. McBride argues that an instantly known plumber without a plumber's license is the kind of things citizens might want to know about.

"People everywhere should be doing the same thing with your local principals, with your local mayors, with powerful business people in your community," she said. "Everyone has a set of public records that comes with them, and the fact that Joe is now is on the campaign trail with McCain makes it even more appropriate."

In short order, Wurzelbacher made a guest appearance on Fox News to discuss his treatment by the media.

"It actually upsets me," Wurzelbacher said. "I am a plumber, and just a plumber, and here Barack Obama or John McCain — these guys are going to deal with some serious issues coming up shortly, and the media's worried about whether I've paid my taxes, they're worried about any number of silly things that have nothing to do with America."

McBride, of the Poynter Institute, said that in a presidential race daunting in its import, length and ubiquity, glimpses of real people affected by the issues help Americans navigate the campaigns.

"Something has changed with the audience," she said. "The audience is really, really, really interested in small sideshows."

No, Frank and I are just joking around. We agreed a couple of years ago on another forum that we'd never talk seriously about politics. I'm just jerking his chain a bit and him mine.

Yeah, but he had the sense to pick a running mate who has great legs AND writes her own speeches . . . unlike Joe Biden, who dropped out of the 1988 presidential election in disgrace after it was revealed he plagerized the speeches of a British politician. :oo :oo

Joe the Plumber works for Newell Plumbing and Heating Co. of Toledo. According to Ohio building regulations, Wurzelbacher must maintain his own license to do independent plumbing work, but is not necessary if he works for a plumbing corporation.

John F. Kennedy (1961-1963): 1961 Ford Thunderbird Convertible

This was the first year of the Thunderbird's much sleeker “Bullet Bird” styling. It held the dual honors that year -- it was the Indianapolis 500 pace car and 50 of the '61 T-Birds were driven in JFK's inaugural parade. (It probably helped that Ford executive Robert McNamara was named secretary of Defense.)
THE STROKE
John Kennedy's old man pulled a lot of strings to get his son in the Oval Office. He got the union vote, including Jimmy Hoffa's Teamsters to vote Democratic. The Mob would get their usual pass with J. Edgar as head of the FBI. The oil companies would still keep 24% of their profits from being taxed by the government. Allen Dulles would be able to implement the Cuban refugee invasion of Cuba. The military would be sending more "advisors" to Vietnam. Lyndon Johnson would be the Vice Presidential running mate. All the above directed by "'Ol Joe Kennedy. The "Doc" Kearns of Presidential dads.

Then December,1961. Joe Kennedy has a stroke. He's virtually a vegetable. All the promises would now be broken. No more tax breaks for the oil companies. Allen Dulles would be fired as the chief of the CIA. Bobby Kennedy would go after the Mob and Jimmy Hoffa. Hoover was going to be replaced. Advisors would be pulled out of Nam. And last but not least,LBJ would be kicked off the ticket in '64. He,along with Bobby Baker,be charged with criminal acts. Yeah,John and Bobby wanted to do it their way now.

If Old Man Kennedy wouldn't have had the stroke, his son wouldn't have been shot to death in Dallas. Oh,that shooting. The lone nut. Is there anyone out there that would like to buy prime real estate property on the moon from me?
I'm not interested in making a real estate purchase from you, but I do believe that all the available evidence points to Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone gunman who assassinated JFK.
Tom
Just two things and you can have the last say. We could have a thread on this that could last for years.
1. All the doctors at Parkland Hospital where JFK
was taken in Dallas said the wound to JFK's head came from the front. Oswald was supposedly behind JFK in the Texas Book Depository Building. I have their statements on tape from Nigel Turner's documentary,"The Men Who Killed Kennedy." These doctors were never were asked to testify before the Warren Commision.

2. The Zapruder film which wasn't released to the American public for 12 years, clearly shows Kennedy being shot from some guy to the side and to the front of him.Evidence of his head exploding apart from the the front side and then jerking back. Probably the shot came from the Grassy Knoll.`

Under the Constitution, the vice-president serves as President of the Senate, with two primary duties: to cast a vote in the event of a Senate deadlock and to preside over and certify the official vote count of the U.S. Electoral College.

By statute, the vice-president serves as chairman of the Board of NASA, and as a member of the board of the Smithsonian Institution.

That said, Harry Truman wryly remarked that the real job of the vice president is to "go to weddings and funerals."

Well, by golly, I want my vice-president to look great at weddings and funerals! So Sarah's got my vote. :TU: :TU:

More on vice-presidents:

John Adams, the first vice president: "the most insignificant office that ever the invention of man contrived or his imagination conceived."

Thomas R. Marshall, the 28th Vice President: "Once there were two brothers. One ran away to sea; the other was elected vice president of the United States. And nothing was heard of either of them again."

When the Whig Party was looking for a vice president on Zachary Taylor's ticket, they approached Daniel Webster, who said of the offer "I do not intend to be buried until I am dead."
