I was a little concerned about if Channel 5 were going to drop Boxing, and I asked them if they are interested in getting the major world title fights from America. Five seem to be the only channel prepared to show competitive fights with good presentation of late (I like the Espn shows). So I thought it was worth a go.

Here is my letter.

Dear Sir / Madam.

I wrote to you several years ago thanking you for your excellent live presentation of the Evander Holyfield vs Michael Moorer rematch in 1998. At the time I asked if you planned to screen more bouts and I am now fully enjoying your fights of the week and classic action on the late night Sport of Five shows. Keep up the excellent work.

I am wandering if there are any plans to broadcast more boxing in the future. As I am sure you a aware Sky and the BBC broadcast many of the
"Super" world title fights, although for everyone one they show there is one that slips through the net.

The BBC have indicated that they have been impressed with their ratings for the boxing presentations and as a fan I can tell you that Audience figures would be even higher for the bouts that they do not show. For example, there is a potentially great match up between one of the greatest fighters of all time (Roy Jones Jnr) and his great rival (Antonio Tarver) taking place tonight, that is not being shown on UK television.

I am fully aware that it is expensive to have the broadcast to live bouts, but I think it would be great to see such fighters like Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver on Uk television, even in if its on late and on a delayed
basis, which I am sure will be cheaper to obtain.

I would be interested to know if you have any interest in showing more top class boxing on Five in the near future.

It makes more sense than spending the time here just moaning about them.

Well worth writing, but I don't believe Channel 5 are dropping boxing from their schedule (thank god). They didn't show any for a whole week, but were back last thursday and are screening a good clash featuring David Telesco V Derrick Harmon at 12.30am (i think) on thursday 20th May.

It is in the first post, mate.

I was a little concerned that they only refered to me thanking them for the Boxing classic and not the Fight of the week (which is ESPN's FNF).

Incidently, what is KOTV like, it on a very funny time in Wales - from what I have seen, its not that good. Do they ever show full fights?

How did I miss it?

No fights in full I'm afraid as the show only lasts about 20-25 minutes. It like a boxing version of the Fastshow.

It's useful for those who don't have Sky etc as you get snippets of certain fights, interviews, old classics and news.

If you're like me and pretty much watch anything related to the current boxing scene, then it's ok.

I only ever watched KOTV a couple of times but I reckon they usually show an ESPN fight. So if Five do drop off with FNF's completely it might be worth shoving a tape in for the channel 4 show.

Remember it's Saverese v Nolan tonight though on Five.

This isn't right mate they're not fighting until the 28th. The next boxing on CH5 after tonights match is a week tomorrow and it's Art Simonyan v Narongit Pirang.

I thought as much - Tarvis Simms in on the undercard on the 28th bill, I assume its a non title affair. 2 fringe contendors and 1 world champion, thats a bill I won't be taping over for a while.

Yeah it is not the Light Middleweight world champion, but his brother, undefeated middleweight prospect. Worth a look all the same.
