TASTY ROY JONES ODDS -- ANY TAKERS?

Post by overhand_right »

Paddy power have RJJ 4/1 to win on points, 5/1 to win via any kind of stoppage.

If you want to get specific, some of the later rounds are as high as 66/1!!

I'm tempted to have a punt on a Jones stoppage - he's the biggest puncher Joe has faced, a genuine light heavyweight, and Joe can be countered. If Jones is to win, I think this is his best chance.

I would say Kessler or Lacy are the biggest punchers Clazaghe has faced, Jones hasn't stopped anyone for six years :o

If Jones Jr did wobble Calzaghe I suppose it would be interesting to see what he could muster for a follow up attack, if it was early in the fight.

I don't know though. Jones Jr used to be one of the most alert, astute guys in boxing whether in the ring or on the microphone. Now he just sounds more strange and deluded with every interview. I hope this is the end regardless of what happens.

Thing I keep coming back to with regard to a Jones 'win' is the strong rumours of a mooted rematch next year in Cardiff.

A Calzaghe stoppage win or wide points decision is unlikely to put many bums on seats in the Millenium but an RJJ win of any kind or heaven forbid a draw certainly would.

Does the '0' really mean that much to Joe? A rematch/last last last fight in Cardiff in the summer of 09 would be a real money-spinning retirement pay-off.

Hopefully I wasn't being too ambiguous with my last post. Yes I'm talking conspiracy theory here.

I've been thinking about that as well. I don't like the fact that they keep talking about a rematch.

No, but I'm not discounting it outright. Far stranger things have happened.

I got a tenner at 48/1 on Calzhage,Hatton and Haye to lose would have been 66/1 if i`d put it on last week.
With all these conspiracy theories about Cardiff rematch it might be worth a tenner on a draw at 20/1 :box:

I won't be taking that I'm afraid. It's mildly tempting as one cannot tell how far Calzaghe may have slipped, but I believe that Jones is long finished at this level.

He can look good beating up old, fat, ring rusty welterweights, but a not far removed from his prime Calzaghe is whole another level entirely.

Matt you would have got a better run for your money if you had chucked it out of the window on a windy day and then chased it down the street :TU:

Completely agreed - I have a sneaky suspicion about this one - I honestly think RJJ is going to provide Calzaghe with some massive problems.

I think it's a 'value' bet in that it's unlikely but as you say none of the 3 results would knock you off your chair so it's a hell of a return.
