Darchiniyan in Historical Context

Post by Grant »

Where does he sit in the Australian context at the moment.

Every one knows I am a Lionel Rose fan, But I think what Vic has done is up there with Lionel and above Jeff, Fammo and Kostya in that he has united a title wheras the others held various versions of titles, I suppose it can be argued that Fammo and Kostya were universal champs. I could be wrong there but I am only going from memory so be kind to me.

What do others think?

Jimmy Carruthers and Lionel Rose were undisputed World Bantamweight champions. Johnny Famechon was the WBC Featherweight Champion, but he beat Jose Legra for the title after beating Bobby Valdez. Legra had beaten Howard Winston and Valdez was the top featherweight in the USA. Neither Raoul Rojas not the man he beat for the WBA title were rated in the world top ten at the time.

Kostya was a unified champ, it's been done before, i would like to see Darchiniyan move up in weight before i start placing him in the hall of fame.
