And right about now Jones has tunnel vision "to put hands on Tarver" and end his career with a bang, while reestablishing the legacy he had worked so hard to build. I'm glad to hear it, this is the only fight worth making for Jones now. However, I get a nasty feeling he's going to come unstuck again, after all, Tarver knows he can blast Jones out of there now, so he's going to really go for it.

Jones needs to move more, but I wonder whether he has the legs for it any more.

Even if in the rubber match Jones Ko's in 2 Tarver, everyone apart from the biggest of Jones fans will, when re-assesing Roy Jones's career will always mention the Tarver KO loss.

In the same way people mention Durans KO loss to Hearns and Louis's loss to Schmelling and Lewis's loss to McCall etc.

I'm not saying it's right and fair but it is the way it can be sometimes.

I think Jones will stand a better chance of victory if the third natch is at Cruiserweight. But will Tarver let that happen???

No, if anything I think the higher weight would favor Tarver, who is a huge light-heavy and has mentioned how hard hard it for him to make 175. Remember, Jones is a natural middle/supermiddle who was nearly always the smaller man (in terms of frame and weight at fight time) when fighting at 175 - the only reason he struggled to make weight in the first Tarver fight was because of all the bulk he'd added for his foray into the heavies.

Also, I'm not sure if Tarver "going for it" in a rubber match would be wise for him to do, because that would give Jones plenty of counter opportunities. In fact the KO punch last weekend came just after Tarver had wound up wide open for a counter after having a jab parried by Jones. Tarver only just avoided getting hit by the straight right that followed by doubling over, and he started his huge left from that jackknifed position - I think it's because it was thrown from such a weird starting position that Jones never saw it coming, and he in fact had just thrown a left hook of his own to try to catch Tarver as he was coming up. If Jones' left hadn't just glanced off Tarver's rising right shoulder it could have very easily been a double knockdown, though Tarver's left was thrown with all his weight behind it and still would have done more damage even if Jones had landed his.

In other words, Tarver's KO wasn't so much the result of his going all-out in the fight - if anything he had Jones lulled into a false sense of security because he was clearly being outboxed at the time of the KO. The KO was more the result of taking one big shot from an awkward position, and taking advantage of the fact that Jones was standing right in front of him, trying to catch him as he came up - that was Jones' mistake, but hindsight is always 20/20, ain't it?
