Enzos next fight July 3rd

Dynamite fisted Welshman ENZO MACCARINELLI returns to action on Saturday 3
July at the Newport Sports Centre in Wales when he defends his WBU World
Cruiserweight title for the fourth time.

Maccarinelli’s opponent will be confirmed shortly but the 23-year-old has
set his sights on a showdown with WBO king JOHNNY NELSON before the end of
the year.

“I would love a fight with Nelson, the public and press are starting to talk
about it and I believe it will happen.” Said Maccarinelli who was voted last
years Best Young Boxer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association.

“He’s got that awkward style but I believe my style will be the one to beat
him and I’d have no hesitation in saying that I would knock him out. I’d
rate Johnny as the best in the division and I want a test against him to see
how good I am now and good I can become,”

In February, Maccarinelli stopped tough Londoner Garry Delaney in the eighth
round – the furthest he has been taken in his career. The longest
Maccarinelli had gone previously was four rounds but against Delaney he
injured his hand in the first round which he believes stopped him from an
early stoppage.

“After my hand had gone in the first I had to box smart against Delaney and
wait for my openings otherwise I’m sure the fight could have ended early. I
had to dig deep and keep the pressure on him to win the rounds and gradually
wear him down until the knockout came. My hand swelled up like a balloon
after the fight but its is fine now,”

David Haye is another target that Maccarinelli has focused on.

“Haye said after his fight with Arthur Williams that he is looking at
bringing over big foreign names, well they don’t come bigger than
Maccarinelli. That’s twelve letters find a bigger one! Finished
Maccarinelli.

I like Mark Hobson, but a part of me hopes Lee Swaby wins the British and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles next week in Huddersfield. Enzo was flattened by Swaby a few years back and has never talked of cleaning up his record as he should. Instead, we get Carl Froch-like crap about unifying 'world' titles. But if Swaby were to win next week, Enzo's talk would look very hollow indeed.

Who the hell would Swaby fight for the British title in his defences he says he wants to make Haye wait and I cant see Enzo wanting any part of him and the same with allegedly. The domestic Cruiserweight scene is shaping up very nicely now that Haye has signalled his intentions to fight tough opposition.

Well, he has to beat Hobson first, which is going to be tough. But now the cruiserweight limit has been raised to 200lbs, there are going to be plenty of challengers available. Rob Norton holds a win over Swaby and would be a good challenger, as would Bruce Scott or Denzil Browne. But a lot of smaller heavyweights will be moving down and, as you say, the division is shaping up nicely for the first time in years.

Enzo is still learning his business but has to pretend to be a world chsmpion because of his idiotic WBU belt.

The fight against Delaney was a perfect example - good domestic class fight between a warhorse that has served the game proud and an up and coming fighter, great for a British title, but hardly a world title fight.

Yeah but its the same with all the WBU fights. Apart from Pinto v Hatton (which didnt happen) I can only think of Sanders v Rahman as a genuine WORLD title fight under the WBU.

Nelson won't fight Macaranelli at this late stage of his career. What's in it for him, he already has a better belt than Macca.

I like Macca though, and I think with the right development he could turn into a world class fighter. He certainly has great hand speed and punch power, though I think he lacks the balance and poise of Haye.

regardless of the fight, the WBU isn't a genuine world title full stop. when Rahman and Sanders fought, they were frindge top 10 at best.
