if Ricky Hatton was on BBC - Would they show live at 9pm?

At the mo, all the Beebs shows go out delayed at 11.30ish. Far too late in my opinion.

According, to some reports Hatton is upset at certain announcements about his opposition.

If the Beeb could get Ricky, do you think they would put their shows on live, Saturday nights?

It could be the best thing that has happened to boxing in the uk for years in terms of raising the profile of the sport.

It HAS to happen, for boxings sake.

Just think of the interest it would generate for the average man on the street.

It would get Boxing competeing for column inches in the papers.

Actually, I would disagree, there are a lot of non-boxing fans who don't know who Hatton is.

Audley Harrison is probably better known to the average bod on the street, Olympic medals really do create a stir.

possibly but most men in the street also dismiss Audley immidiately due to his boasts and lost interest in his perfromances some time ago, while hatton is still seen as the real thing by the afroesaid man in street.

BBC have a terrible attitude towards boxing, they dont even show harrison on a early time, so i doubt they would with hatton either

signing hatton wouldnt make any difference. The beeb did have the highest profiled name in the sport ie Harrison and look at the way they have treated boxing just now. In the eyes of the public at large Aubrey is the highest profile out there, not Hatton, who im sure the majority of armchair casual fans have never heard off.

so signing Hatton , as unlikely as that is wouldnt mean the bbc would raise the stakes in the prestenting times, style etc. at least certainly not in the long term.

Its true, more people know of Carl Froch than Ricky Hatton. The Beeb seem to have a much bigger audience.

Having said that, realistically, I doubt whether the BBC would have been able to show Ricky's fights live, it's not like they've shown all of any other of 'their' fighters live every time is it.

Boxing just isn't mainstream enough.

I wish the BBC would set up a boxing channel.

Quite true James.

Sadly evening re-runs of some shitty sitcom draw more viewers than a Ricky Hatton fight would... and thats all the BBC would care about.

All our opinions and wants are as boxing fans and fanatics... we just have to accept that "most people" don't feel the same about boxing as we do.

There are bound to be some hockey & netball fanatics etc out there... and what coverage of their sport do they get??? We should count ourselves lucky really.

Someone explain to me why there is so much fornicating Nascar, Baseball and Ice Hockey on late at night, how many people give a flying nun's chuffbox about any of those sport.

My guess is they are dirt cheap, and as they figure the only people watching are students and weed-smoking dossers, there isn't much point spending any money on the late late shift time slot.
