Geale Title Defence

Post by razor7 »

I notice that the December title defence for Daniel Geale v tba which has been listed for quite a while in boxrec is now a 10 round non title fight against kiwi Daniel McKinnon.Does anyone know what happened? When does Geale have to defend by?

With all the titles out there, there may be a shortage of middleweight contenders. The IBO is not rated very highly.

As well as that, if a serious contender took on Geale and lost it would hurt his bargaining power, and Daniel has a bad habit of knocking people out.

True Brute but in the IBO you can defend against anyone in the top 35 if I'm not mistaken. Boxrec currently rates Geale at no.4 ( a bit high I think but there you go). Wouldn't anyone from 5-35 be keen to fight him? If you rated say 20-35 you would jump at the chance as Geale is a relative unknown internationally. I would think those in the centre of the universe ( eg USA) would think geale was beatable & they could pick up a title from one alphabet organisation which actually seems to be gaining credibility.Any thoughts? That makes the McKinnon fight a bit disappointing.

I think outside of the WBC,WBA,IBF and WBO it(IBO) would be the next belt i rate.

Some current and former champs that defend the IBO belt, Wlad,Hatton,Tarver,Hlatswayo.

better than the other sanctions in IMO.

McKinnon was supposed to be a non-title warm-up fight before defending the title against a bigger foe, that fight was scrapped so they put back their defence as well. He has a big name lined up in his next fight
