Forgotten fighters Teddy Yarosz Beat Billy Conn three times

Post by slakka »

How clever was Teddy Yarosz as a boxer? I"'ll tell you how clever," Ray Arcel answered. He was that clever I thought he beat Billy Conn three times, not once as the books say and to me Billy Conn was the greatest light heavy of all time and rates right up there with the best fighters in history.

Don't know much about Yarosz's fights with Conn, but even one win over Conn is impressive enough. He also beat a young Archie Moore too.

In his own day, Yarosz was pegged as the next great middleweight champion, but a severe leg injury and two upset losses to journeyman Babe Risko ended that. After that, he was shut out of a title shot, even though he remained a top rated contender for some time afterward.

Ain't Teddy Yarosz became world champion at welterweight?

Ray Arcel was not alone in that recollection.
He boxed rings around Archie Moore in St Louis in 39.
Beat Lloyd Marshall, Beat Ken Overlin twice!
Beat hellaciously tough Solly Kreiger in what the N.Y. masters of boxing reportage made clear was a masterpiece and was compaired to Gene Tunney!

At his best, a master boxer who was unhittable defensively.

"Could do everything but hit" according to his Mgr Ray Foutts.
