As far as Joe is concerned, he has secured his 'legacy'. It's all about the Benjamins. Who is gonna give him millions to fight Froch? No-one.

The fight, as much as the British people might like to see it, simply wont happen. Move on.

on episode one of HBO's 24/7 calzaghe jones build up show they did mention somehting along these lines....that a few yrs ago, joe had a hard think to himself and decided to bring in another trainer to help move joes career forward, however after discussing with enzo he decided not to do it (ie, enzo didnt like the idea)

I've not seen the fight, so am not going to judge the antics but can go on the score cards and the over all impression on here of the performance.

Sounds like you cannot fault the performance, but for the love of god - Roy lost every round to Glen Johnson before getting Ko'd. And that was a few years ago.... Roy is no better than he was in 2005, despite Bunce's claims.

Sounds like you cannot fault the performance, but to say Roy is just in decline is doing Roy a massive disservce..... it was Holmes vs Ali all over again, this time though - we all KNEW in advance Roy was in the role of Ali.... yet some still refused to believe it or listened to the hype.

Calzaghe beat someone not in a P4P top 50 and thats how this fight should be looked at........ Manfredo was as worthy.

I know I am probably in the vast minority here but I fecking loved it!

The general common opinion is that Joe's antics were distasteful and disrespectful. I disagree. If he was showboating to someone who was just an inferior fighter then I would've thought he was being a dick but he was doing it to someone who has spent their career making vastly inferior opponents look like silly sausages and idiotic by showing off. It was about time he took some of his own medicine.

I also realise that Joe got caught with some silly shots but I was confident that he had the situation under control and the judges gave him every round after the first one. He couldn't have been doing much round then?

Just because Jones Junior is a legend doesn't make him immune from being made to look like a dick. I remember in the Trinidad fight he mocked Felix as he went down - that was distasteful.

My favourite was when Joe was looking under Jones' guard with his hands down. I can't believe where he got his confidence from, especially after being put down and hurt in the very first round. Amazing.

I do know I will probably get some crap for my opinion, so if I don't return it's because I feel some of the justification for the retorts in this thread aren't fair, and also because I have a lot of work today too.

Just remember though - it's my opinion.

I rekon Joe ought to employ someone to teach him how to showboat and actually make it look good, some of the stuff he was doing looked pathetic. As for whether it was taseless or disrespectful to Jones, I can't see it... Roy has been in there before and made a mug out of low standard opposition and been applauded for his showboating along with plenty of other fighters. The only relevant difference here, in my mind, is that Joe is crap at showboating but I don't think he was disrespectful.

It was part of Joe's way of establishing psychological dominance in there. I bet Jones couldn't believe how he was being treated. He had Joe right in his face with his hands by his sides, and he had no idea what to do about it. Calzaghe always finds a way of taking centre stage - even in close fights like Hopkins - he establishes himself as the "guvnor".

I watch boxing because I find it entertaining. The showboating just makes it more entertaining for me. Both Calzaghe and Jones were showboating, and I loved it.

I enjoyed it at the start, but it grated towards the end. Firstly, I paid for a ticket to see two fighters, not two disco dancers. I had no problem with the first half of the fight, seeing Joe slip punches like Pretty Boy was a joy to watch. But watching them dance like chickens towards the end is not boxing. It's your Dad after a few Spitfires at a wedding.

That said, I think people are hypocritical to say they didn't enjoy any of the show boating. After all, you don't watch the Harlem Globetrotters for their full-court press.

I enjoy watching Joe showboat more than than the Walsh knobs because Calzaghe has proved that he can do it at the top level, whereas they haven't. Joe did do it early in his career but not as bad as then three are doing it now. They're embarrassing.

Showboating is what captures the immagination of the armchair fans, not the die-hards like us. Without alittle "razzle dazzle" the average fan may be turned off.

Calzaghe's never really going to go for the KO especially if he doesn't have to. The risk of breaking a hand is far too much, and try fighting guys like Hopkins, Jones (with one hand it would've been hard for Joe) and Kessler - it's not going to work for him.

I think the differentiate between Joe and the three brothers is justifiable. Like you say, Joe has deserved to do it and he's doing against guys that could/have hurt him. In my opinion I loved that performances by Joe - he only expressed himself I think.

And doesn't look 100% confident doing it? I disagree - he had been hurt and down in the first round and was doing it as early as the 2nd. I think that tells you how confident Joe was. He wasn't just doing it against guys that posed no threats - that's what I admire.
